The webinar was quite productive, thank you so much for all your efforts. Mrs. Joanne was a bit distracted though, all her answers seemed generalized and not getting to the point, which was quite confusing :)

It’s a tire changing competition. You don’t change the valve stem when you’re doing that and you don’t use bead sealer on steel rims. I also never use bead sealer on aluminum rims. Only use bead sealer on rims that you can’t get sealed. and always clean the aluminum rim sealing surface. most places I’ve seen don’t clean the rim and put bead sealer on it won’t leak at least not for six months. if you want proper tire installed on a rim you need to go to a place that just does tires. I illuminated that problem I bought my own tire changer balancer. I’ve been a mechanic for 40+ years, so I actually know how to do tires properly. And keep this in mind the fastest guys at changing tires are not the best guys to have working on your rims and tires. Just because you’re super fast doesn’t make you good.

I'm surprised I keep seeing nobody use bead sealer.... They might do it fast but if that was a customers tire, they ain't happy. Guaranteed leak coming back almost every time. Edit: Also, they don't even replace the valve or service pack....
@sirbrokenlegs2074
@sirbrokenlegs2074 Жыл бұрын
Bead sealer? The way i always sealed the bead was by inflating the tire up to 4.2 bar so the bead presses tight against the rim. Also yea, replacing the valve stem takes like another 10-15 seconds in a real-life scenario, plus you would have to with a TPMS sensor fitted wheel unmount it near the valve stem if you don't wanna break it. Not every new car will have a sensor however, as Volkswagen for example measures the pressure off the ABS ring's signal. Even the Z4 did it before BMW begun using sensors

@@sirbrokenlegs2074 I guess it's just my personal work experience. I'm learning many places don't use bead sealer all the time and on new rims especially which I can see why. The places I have worked, always replace the service pack or valve stem due to later problems with it becoming seized. Thanks for your input
@sirbrokenlegs2074
@sirbrokenlegs2074 Жыл бұрын
@@IWasGivenRest I honestly never have had a problem just lubing the bead with grease when mounting, and just using air pressure to compress the bead against the rim. I've worked at a tire shop for a few months as an apprentice, and if our work didn't last then i don't see why customers would keep coming in. Now yes, we always replace the valve stem but rarely the service pack. The times we do replace them if they happen to be leaking, or the customer wants them replaced. Other times we just screw in a new valve needle and it's good to go. But you do you buddy 👌
@IWasGivenRest
@IWasGivenRest Жыл бұрын
@@sirbrokenlegs2074 I can understand the logic, but in other words, aren't you just letting the service pack seize so that next time they actually would want to replace it that you will have to snap the sensor and charge them more?
@sirbrokenlegs2074
@sirbrokenlegs2074 Жыл бұрын
@@IWasGivenRest I am not sure where you're coming with that, to be honest. Also, not every sensor fitted wheel will have a metal valve stem to it, but a lot of times it's a rubber one with the sensor just screwed onto it. We a lot of times don't have to touch the sensor, but when we do it just isn't really seized either because it was torqued to spec

is this meant to be fast?
@heisenfeis

Steel rims are usually very fast to do. Easy to bang weights on, usually alot of sidewall so a squeez breaks the bead all way round, and you can treat them more "harshly" not needed to be too careful. Alloy rims where you have to be careful not to damage paint ect and the weights are usually glued inside the rim, sometimes alloy rim got really low profile tires so the bead pops out and you have to press it again and again. As you can tell i love people with OEM steel rims and normal tires. Another thing with modern alloys which can be annoying is the TPMS sensor in the valve you fill air in the tire, this can break if not careful. Hope that gave some insight, have a nice day :)

@heisenfeis
@heisenfeis 2 жыл бұрын
@@emprahlocc1838 I see, i did not get it was a "rhetorical question", i thought you meant "is this safe, that it is this fast" along those lines, there is alot of misconceptions out there about tire mounters ect, people dont get sometimes there is a difference with aluminum and steel rims. i work as a mechanic and sometimes people dont get stuff takes time to do.
