I bought the Nikon version of the Tokina lens in the 1990s and I recall reading back then that there was an Angenieux connection, as it was a factor in my purchase of that particular lens. Since it predates my internet access, the information must have come from one or more of the magazines or, perhaps, a brochure.

hi ! Yes I totally agree with your review. I got a 159MM that I'm still using to this day, and it's been my favourite because the reasons you mentioned. If I want to use it in fully manual mode, I can, but I can also pass it to someone who knows nothing about cameras if I want to be in a shot, and set it on P mode, the photos are perfect. The lenses are great too, I got a 1.7 50 mm standard on this one. the 1.4 would have been slightly better but I'm not complaining because the price range is different. It's good as it is. I took great shots with it and I love its small, light weight size. Thanks for the review, because as you say correctly, this camera deserves more praise.

Lovely video! Question open to anyone willing to answer: how does the Minolta a9 compare to a Nikon F100? I'm placing my eyes on both but can't decide. I'm particularly interested in the clarity/brightness of the viewfinder and feel. The only way to know that would be to test them both but can't find any place 😢

Film stock especially slide film is so expensive that you should do your best to get the best results from your 36 frames of a roll. This camera has excellent AF, it can use nodern high quality stabilized EF lenses, and its built-in metering is excellent, too. So, if you prioritize great quality film photos, this is the camera to pick. The other cameras I'd recommend with similar features are Nikon F80 and Minolta Dynax 7 or 7x, but my top pick would be this Canon EOS 300x, absolutely. I really dont understand why people buy old unreliable, terribly restricted, expensive film cameras like Nikon F2 (i have one) or Leica, when the 300x is a million times better and more versatile tool for film photography when result - focus and metering - is important. I am absolutely agree every words you said.

I picked one up from a charity shop, and it seemed to make all the right noises and I thought it was going to be functional. But then I got to the end of the roll and...nothing. I tried the midroll rewind button, and that also did nothing. I guess the next step is to open it up in a dark bag and either rewind it into the cartridge or just skip a step and put it on a reel to develop. If everything otherwise checks out, it might be worth trying to fix.

My vote for half frame GOAT: PEN FV with OM lens adapter 28mm OM prime and the tack sharp 28-48mm F4 OM zoom. The cameras that will be of interest to photographers are pending. The Pentax 17 is meant for young folks that want to try film photography for the first time, moving up from disposables.

Very nice video. I own 4 Tokina 28-70 2.6 and use for multicam purposes. Great lenses. Actually bought them very cheap some years back very much because of the story of angeniuex glass inside. Funny how the price increases also because there is this other version of the lens with f2.8 and not 2.6. I read that the 2.8 was not angeniuex glass anymore and this is still the thing people believe considering the used price different between them. Recently I read online, don't know if its true of course, that the lens was marketed with 2.6-2.8 for the European market and 2.8 in the Japanese market. Not a far fetched idea since the 2.8 lens is in tokinad list of legacy lenses and it is also noted that it is "also known as 2.6-2.8" so it should be the same lens in fact. The 2.8 is about a fifth of the price of a 2.6. just bought a 2.8 for abou 150dollars and will test it side by side with my other 4 2.6. Even thought there seems to be myth with the ang. glass these lenses are very good if you need compact zoom glass for 100% manual functionality.
@yellow_tone
@yellow_tone 10 күн бұрын
I finally got my Tokina 28-70 2.8 and did a thorough test with my 3 other 2.6 lenses. I can say that the result is identical between these different versions. If someone is planning to buy a 2.6 lens go for the 2.8 instead (though not the one called 2.8 SV that is a lens that was released later and is in fact not as good in quality) the 2.6 lens sells for about 500dollars and the 2.8 for about 150.

I have a K1 and K5. Now as to toughness. The K1 actually isn't that fantastic. On the K5 it's basically all metal body except the pop up flash. Now on the K1 the main body is mental. But the top cap which holds all the twiddling dials. Is a plastic fantastic. And they commonly crack when dropped. They also crack if you put too much strain on the hot shoe. In fact it so flimsy I wouldn't use the hot shoe. Apart from that it's fantastic.

If you're going for the most compact, mechanical, manual SLR, I have to go for the Pentax MX. Wayyy better viewfinder vs OM-1, swappable focus screen, and it can use modern glass like the 43mm limited, or the older 40mm Pentax-M. Great coverage of the options though, and you can't go wrong with an Olympus in that slot 😁

I've been developing at home and scanning on a cheap Epson scanner. I'm upgrading to a DSLR scanning setup imminently. I've never used Photoshop or really done any editing of my pics yet. I was wondering if you use a specific tool in your software to do this or do you need knowledge of photo editing to achieve this? I usually tended to gravitate towards my plastic fantastic Nikon F75 until recently for it's small size, awesome feature set for what it was marketed as and the ability to put on some amazing Nikon glass. I now also have acquired an F80, a significantly minor upgrade over the F75 but phenomenal nonetheless. Else it is the Canon EOS Elan 7E for the Canon side of things. And on the mechanical side, it is usually the Pentax K1000 or the Nikon FM2n or F2 which is a monster camera. Cheers!

Enjoyed the video! Serial number that starts with 5 is most likely gonna have brass mirror motor cog. I had one with the battery grip. I have never missed an exposure with this camera. I agree it is a great camera though I sold it off because I just couldn't justify keeping it. I replaced it with the cheaper black MZ-3 with a factory brass cog. I also have the MZ-6 with a factory brass cog. The MZ cameras have a bad reputation of breaking because of the plastic cogs that break but if one can find copies with brass cogs, they are really good cameras and the metering is quite spot on. Not to mention that modern lenses can be used on them. I am using the latest HD FA 35mm f2. Ah but of course I have the F 28mm 2.8 just because this is a 28mm channel.

The top plate, by the way, is metal not plastic! In all the years I've been using my 50e the door latch has never failed. My camera’s door snapped open mid-roll, and I found out that you can buy a latch replacement from eBay. After a quick Google search, I discovered that faulty latches are quite common, not just with some Canon models, but also with Nikon cameras like the F100, which is known for its weak door latch. Recently, the door on my Canon Elan 7 broke as well. It’s just plastic and age; these cameras were never designed to last this long. Anyway, I hope you keep enjoying your camera.
