Sounds nice, but mixture possibly a tad weak. The blued exhaust pipes point to this or perhaps retarded timing? It's a myth blued pipes are correct. ATB 👍👍

I am so sorry this happened to you. It's tragic. I assume the car driver was at fault. If I had any of the parts you need, I send them free. I got a small taste of what you're going through. I once restored a 1970 Norton 750 Commando. Long story short, it was nearly complete, and running fine....Then it caught fire, and burned to the ground. I got 3rd degree burns on my leg where my socks elastic band melted into my lower lega, and ankle.......

Hi Andy, enjoying watching the B50 rebuild. I'm in Adelaide and almost at the same stage as you with my 71 B50SS. Just waiting on parts from the UK for my forks and swing arm. My frame is stripped but not painted yet. Would you recommend painting or powder coating? I have concerns with the powder coating process because of the risk of any residual oil in the frame ruining the job if it leaches out when the frame is in the oven. I intend flushing the frame with kero at some point. Do you source your parts in Oz? The delays in getting stuff ex UK is frustrating at times and I would prefer to shop locally if I can.

I'm sorry Clive i missed your message. Definitely paint. Make sure you flush the frame properly and dirt or sand from blasting will quickly destroy your engine. Uk for parts, just a google exercise. ;) good luck with your project

The sad thing that is in the UK - the birthplace of all these classic bikes, when we were finished with them, we did not put them in the shed, we simply put them in the tip!

Nice clean rebuild. I had a new one back in 1963. Full Clubmans race trim ex factory. Came with full written test report of 46 bhp. Was entered for the Thruxton 8 hours race, think it was 8 hours that year. Was doing well until it caught a straw bale on one corner and damaged the gear shift mechanism, locking it in third gear. DA10R 334Hc I seem to remember the engine number stamped on the crankcases. Also had extra bracing around the headstock, all done at factory. Kept it three years and sold it for 300 pounds !..
