1st violins rarely say that another instrument is the best reason to hear a piece, but this solo is my favorite part of the Tchaikovsky 5th. The horn also adds subtle beauty to Elgar's Nimrod Variation.

I'm a former horn player, and that part is dangerous. My stomach tightens every time it comes up in live performances. But this horn player took control of the part and made it work. I'd like to know how she didn't let it intimidate her. My guess is endless practice to the point of developing muscle memory.

Hello! Glad to hear you used to play horn, that’s awesome! I was very young in this and had just started uni - I was definitely feeling the same feelings you’ve described! I was incredibly nervous but it’s reassuring to hear that I seemed poised and in control. Indeed practice is definitely part of it too. Thank you for your comment. I hope you enjoy watching my other videos too 😊
@tomgrimes83792 жыл бұрын
@@rosemarryyang My pleasure. It's the air stream: you put air stream behind it. Listen to it. You can hear the projection of air, which kept the notes from bobbling. At my best as a horn player, I don't think I could have done as well. I would have been too nervous.

Hi Donald! Thank you for your kind comments. Yes it is! This was specifically arranged by Peter Adcock for Katy Woolley. I was so inspired by her performance, and she kindly sent me the music 😊
