Hi there. As a starting point, I would work out how you plan to travel to each of these places using something like Google Maps or the app 9292. Then compare the cost of all those individual journeys with one of the applicable tickets mentioned in this video.

Hi hello! I will be staying at zandvort an zee for 3 nights but I will be spending all my days in Amsterdam : do you think the best option is to take a Amsterdam region travel ticket since I’ll be taking the train once in the morning and once in the evening to go back to the Airbnb ? Or should I just pay with my credit card each time I enter the train?? What is possible ? Thank you for your help
@pocketlighthouse23 күн бұрын
Hi there, thank you for your comment. You can use the NS website to work out the cost of your journey. So I would weigh up what's easier and cheaper. Yes, for your credit card - that'd be using the OV pay function. In theory you could do this, but my preference would always be to minimise transactions especially when I'm abroad. I would opt for just buying 1 ticket provided the cost was reasonable.

What would be the most affordable option for one spending 3 months in Amsterdam, where I’d be travelling to and from work daily with possible evening outings(probably not every evening)

My guess would be the OV anonymous chipcard, but it might also depend on how you've travelling GVB or train? Best ask someone at GVB or NS.

Hello, Thank you for such an informative video but i just have two question I have booked a hotel in the zaandam region and if I have to travel to the city centre do I need an Amsterdam region ticket?? Also if I purchase a 48 hour region ticket on Saturday at 10 AM and I have to board train to the airport at 5 AM on Monday morning,Would my region ticket be valid or not as it is not yet 48 hours?
@pocketlighthouseАй бұрын
Hi there. If you're staying in Zaandam, you could buy this ticket but you could also buy separate train tickets/GVB tickets. It really depends on where you're travelling to plus frequency. So I would compare the costs and weigh up what's best for you. In terms of exact timing and validity of the 48 hr region ticket for your situation, I don't know for certain so it would be best to ask at the shop.

Everything you say in this video is reasonable and may well be true. And even so, the data is unequivocal that, while riding with a helmet does not decrease your risk of being in an accident or being injured in that accident, it absolutely does change the *type* of injury you are likely to get (more neck, fewer head/traumatic brain) and it *greatly* reduces the severity of any head injury you do sustain. The Dutch ministry is fully aware of this and is, with sensitivity to the Dutch cultural sense of 'freedom', slowly working to shift public perception and adoption of helmet usage. Arguably, if your health care is taxpayer funded, you do not have unfettered rights to make any health-implicated decisions you want, and it is reaonable to assert that there is at least some public interest to be balanced against your public-facing behaviors. Helmet laws are today's seat belt laws, nobody bats an eye at buckling up in a car now but that wasn't always the case, and the pushback then, as now, was emotional and flew in the face of what is now considered incontrovertible facts and, in the big picture, an intrusion so minor as to be unconscious and automatic when adopted. Give it 30 years, there won't be any semblence of a discussion around this. Personally, my vanity hates helmets, but I can fluff up my hair, meanwhile I only get one brain and life is brutally random. Be well everyone.
@group555_2 ай бұрын
Except that wearing a helmets increases the total amount of accidents and worse accidents. It's a well observed effect of false security and risk behaviour
@gregoryscott38582 ай бұрын
@@group555_ That is an absolutely, unequivocally false conclusion driven by bad data science. The "total number of accidents" is not meaningful, because "more helmet use" generally correlates with "more rides taken" which generally correlates with "more accidents". It's the *rate* of accidents that matters, and the accident rate is not statistically influenced by helmet use.
@gregoryscott38582 ай бұрын
@@group555_ Oh dear, no, this is bad info stemming from bad data science arising from poorly designed case-control studies rife with interpretive and analytical errors. The protective effects of helmets on the human brain and skull are overwhelmingly clear and not in dispute, and in the few rigorously-defined analyses out there of the global data, the benefit in reduction of unrecoverable brain injuries is crystal clear across cultures and age groups. The same arguments were made against seat belts back in the day, and reason won in the end. By all means, ride without a helmet if you wish, it's your brain. If you're ever unfortunate enough to be in an accident where your head hits something at 10 mph, I wish you all the best in your possible recovery.

Hi Jessica. That's right, the GVB ticket doesn't include the train. I don't know the answer off the top of my head. You could check something like Google maps to see if there's a route using the GVB network, but it will take longer to get into Centraal that way.

We visited Amsterdam in April 2024. Now you can use contactless debit cards for all Trains, Trams, Metro and Buses within The Netherlands. Worked pretty well even with foreign card. Plenty of people to help at barriers. Incomplete journeys can be sorted out afterwards via the website. You can only specify where you checked out not checked in. So may get charged for a fare in the wrong direction. Which for trams at least can be more expensive. There is an International Ticket office to the left cityside. Which might be useful.

Hello, thank you very much for the video, it is very very explained! I just have one question regarding the OV chip card. Is it necessary to tap both before and after getting off the vehicle? What happens if I run out of available balance? Is it possible to reload it online or are there machines at the stations where I can top it up? Thank you very much.
@pocketlighthouse3 ай бұрын
Hi there, thank you for your positive comment about this video. Yes, it is definitely a must to tap your OV chip card getting on and off the vehicle. I'm afraid I don't know what happens if you run out of available balance on either your personal/anonymous OV chip card - but I believe there are varying minimum balances depending on the mode of transport. I think it's €4 for bus, tram & metro, and €20 for the trains, but it's best to double check with NS, GVB etc about this. And yes, you can reload on the machines.
