Saw these guys about a year before this about a week before this album dropped. It was boring as fuck and sounded exactly like this and It took me about a decade to get my head around the hype around them. Watching the live version of this album at wave house they posted this year was a big aha! Moment for me. But man. This still sucks as bad as it did a decade ago. Good on them for getting the hype and actually getting better so they actually perform coherently now. But god dam. Would love to know who’s dick they sucked initially to get the ball rolling

I think the only person other than Kevin who's played this entire album on every instrument is Jay. Dude deserves more recognition for being a very skilled multi-instrumentalist.

Its weird cause I've always loved the melodies to these songs and the overall composition and never really paid attention to the lyrics but when you listen to what he s saying, they are actually pretty great lyrics too!

It can definitely be hard to make out what he is saying but once you look it up they are very creative lyrics

I'm coming late to the party, but I really think (especially in It Is Not Meant To Be) they could use some backing vocals here and there. The part "but in all honesty / I don't have a hope in hell" sounds kinda strange with a lead vocal only. In the record version, this chorus does have a backing vocal effect and that rounds up that bit. I think Tame Impala live renditions are overall somewhat awkward or clumsy and this is probably due to the lacking backing vocals and the very fact that the lineup is just for the show but not during composing of the songs.

I often hear other people say the hofner is just a dull thud of a bass guitar, can't say they're.wrong but it works so well for this track and tame impala's music in general.

@@possibly8180 i dont have a Hofner but i have a Epiphone Viola, i love this sound but it gets dull after a while tbh. I play the Jazz Bass much more
