Could not have imagined that Pakistani women researchers and academics can be so very uncluttered, so lucid, refined, and extremely well informed. Amazed is the word. I've subscribed and shared it, too. Her Fulbright credentials, etc. on top of her LUMS position was a big giveaway, but it was in the delivery/exchange at both ends that took the breath away. No drama, no fancy stuff, just plain, pure academic conversation, along with content that I can vouch will be identified with and be in sync with my Indian academic lot, was palpable. Yet, this draws me to the irony of not utilizing such brilliance in the service of policy, and I speak of Asma, Atif Miyan, Asim (I guess that was his name) and I'm certain that there must be so many more, gems, who need to be drawn together to prepare a national plan for resurrection, rejuvenation, and eventual emancipation, and possibly even aligning Pakistan into a friendly relationship, socio-economic-political, distinct from the populist, and dare I say ludicrous attempts at creating fellow feeling in South Asia through playing to the gallery style acts of playing bilateral cricket. Very impressed with the interviewee as well as the young interviewer. Kudos to both. 🎉

I have never seen such a holistic lecture on the suppression and oppression of Pakistani females faced even when it comes to art and literature. We must pay tribute to the female writers of Pakistan who sacrificed too much to break the shackles of patriarchal and sexist taboos.

The good news. Yes, the forces of barbarism are triumphant. The possibility of "Malignant Buffoon" emerging as the Magic man is there. Lesser of the two evils Ms. Harris may equally be damaging with her lawlessness. But the good news is that they will be checked by the old American institutions---the Congress and the Judiciary. The presence of any evil would compel the members of the Congress to look back. To their history of 1776 and 1787. They are the documents that would equip Americans from the forces of barbarism. A luxury no other country in the world possess.

This information is available everywhere in English by American journalists. If you guys were talking in Urdu, I would've understood how it would be helpful - it will make the info accessible for a large segment of our people. This holds no value whatsoever. If you want to do something meaningful, talk about Pakistani politics. It's more turbulent than the US rn. Our democracy is under threat rn. Everything she said, I knew it before because I follow a couple of journalists. I actually know a lot more than discussed. Please, focus on Pakistani politics. We have IK in jail. Our people are being abducted, but no - let's talk about US politics! Sharing info that's already out there. Typical LUMS behavior.

20:19 She almost says Sarojni Naidu but reverts and continues to utter other names. Why? Why not? While Naidu's direct influence in Pakistan is less documented, her legacy as a poet and activist had a broader impact on the region. Her work and her role in the Indian independence movement inspired many in the subcontinent, including those in what is now Pakistan. Her advocacy for women's rights and education resonated with women across the region, contributing to the broader movement for gender equality and education. She was born in 1879 and died in 1949! (India got independence in 1947) Technically her contributions are directly to the entire Indian subcontinent. When she greeted the Americas on their soil as an Indian ambassador in 1928, was she representing us as Hindus? Muslims? No. Naidu's contributions to women's education, English literature, and her role as a political activist left a lasting legacy that continues to inspire people today. Check this link for her speech and see for yourself if any speck of gender inequality is seen- kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJ3Wi6mrg82jarcsi=BwR1BE1ykoSD4eh- Naidu was also a prolific poet and writer. Her poetry, which often reflected Indian culture and the struggles of her people, gained recognition both in India and internationally. She published several volumes of poetry, including "The Golden Threshold" (1905) and "The Bird of Time" (1912). Her literary contributions helped to elevate Indian English literature and brought attention to the richness of Indian culture. She actively promoted women's rights and education through her speeches and writings, inspiring many women to pursue education and participate in the freedom struggle. Naidu's cosmopolitan nationalism and her ability to navigate between Indian and Western cultures made her a symbol of cultural exchange. Her work and her interactions with Western literary figures helped to bridge cultural gaps and promote understanding between different regions of the British Empire, including Pakistan.

Professor Yaqin's talk offers insights into Urdu literature and feminism. However, it overlooks the experiences of Hindu women writers and the contributions of Hindu intellectuals to the women's movement in Pakistan. The talk's focus on Urdu literature may exclude other languages like Punjabi and Sindhi, which are also significant to Pakistani culture. By acknowledging the diverse experiences of minority communities and the richness of multiple languages, the talk could be further enriched. She has instead chosen to be an accessory to the cause of Jihad.

Let’s appreciate it and not be critical of such effort. You also know, as a researcher, one must rigorously examine and scrutinise every detail to uncover what can truly be put to inquiry. This is what the presenter has done, and, I think, has made a good effort. Yes, Urdu literature offers a rich and expansive canvas with diverse theoretical perspectives, literary influences, and cultural contexts. Given this, I wouldn’t call your comment a ‘funny’ one. Nevertheless, fully unraveling the complexities of the subject particularly in the context of gender, sexuality, etc. would require countless in-depth sessions. So, let’s take it one step at a time, and be a part of this effort…

Southern Iran is totally different than central or northern Iran. Bandari People are Khaleeji Rulers so ethnically they belongs to Iranian Lands but due to proximity they holded Lands on the other side of the Border and due to their Interests in Seafare they created todays Gulf or Khaleej e Fars (Khaleej al Arab is just a political term as Fars is itself an Arabic word for Persian Pars). Why Khaleeji people favor's Balochs or Al Balushi people: 1) Baluchs always lived with them in Southern Iran. 2) Baluchs are mostly Sunnis 3) Eastern Arabia is predominately Shia Ajams are very comfortable and loyal to Kuwait / UAE 4) Persian People like Ahwazi, Bushehri, Bandari, Bastaki, Baluchi are always followed semi nomadic lifestyle and lived in Tribal affiliations. 5) Baloch themselves feel comfortable with Iranians / Gulfies due to very similar nature and way of life. 6) Khojas or Lawatis in Oman are also traders from South Asia they follows Shia faith and very loyal to Omani Rulers of Ibadi Faith Middle East is very low populated highly resourceful and very complex region.
