Time does not exist apart from the clock. How can you have or have not a thing that doesn´t exist? From birth to death, it is only mind. I am thumbs up No. 9. Don´t you think this is a perfect way to identify myself? If Kodo Sawaki was alive today, and we met, I would have destroyed his opinions. Am I arrogant? Of course, I deserve it.

Very informative video of the way of thinking of Kodo Sawaki. In my opinion, it is the rant of an old monk, tied up by the fetters of thoughts and concepts. He spoke a lot criticising with good reasons. Here I ask, what for? Who experienced Satori through his words?

I found myself wondering the same. But like the finger that points to the moon, behold the moon and let go of the finger.

Shared on my Facebook so relevant to our current predicament .Utterly brilliant so one man was born to follow Love and Love Alone and they pinned him to a cross to die, thier small world mentality overwhelmed them ignorance prevailed and on our exist is based on this ego sense if inner and outer which is all just appearing in consciouness yet we believe it to be real so it has power over us ,God laughs ,if they won't listen to my son then who the hell will they listen to...I regret the day I created them ..begon lemmings begon...!

Without trying to be pedantic, the 'Self' here isn't , I think, the 'Self' in its everyday meaning. Self, in Chan terms, isn't a thing, or is a nothing, at least according to Buddha. Here, with Soto tradition's links to Chinese silent illumination school, the 'Self' here is buddha-nature, a kind of luminous mind in all things, or, in Quaker spirituality, a light within, like a moon hiding behind a cloud.
