I honestly believe there are 0 redeeming or good things about Frieren. The theme and setting is generic and lazy fantasy. The characters are overpowered boring anime cliches. The overall message, philosophy and theme of the show is extremely basic and lame. The show is 90% flashbacks and filler of Himmel worship. The combat is generic and lazy "basic attack magic", "basic defense magic" x 100000. The magic makes everything pointless as Frieren time travels eventually. I really don't see anything redeeming or fun or interesting about this lazy uninspired shlock garbage. Its just copy pasted anime tropes, overpowered boring characters and side quests that don't mean anything with flashbacks stuffed up the $%^. The show exists to waste the viewers time on actual pointless garbage. It gets a 5/100 score simply because the art is great. Everything else about the story - actual garbage bin trash.

I read this book, and it is SPOT ON.

I think that Frieren is so highly rated because so many anime fans are tired of the same formulaic plot lines and tropes. Frieren is a story told from a perspective we dont often see. The main threat is over and there is no escalation to the action, the focus is more about characters and their relationships rather than focusing on the plot and how the characters fit into it. Dont get me wrong there is still action and cool fights, but the pressure of a world ending threat is gone. The only tension that remains is interpersonal conflicts. Its a fantastic mix of slow burn story telling and character studies and action. There is something everyone can enjoy. That's why its number 1. You can find other anime that do specific things better than Frieren, but none that do everything it does as well as it does overall.

Sad that normies jumped ship not because it was unfunny but because the incestual sister was too icky for them. Def agree that if it was animated 15 years ago people would hail it as an all time classic.

Bullies are going to bully no matter what. It doesn't matter the color of your skin or even how good you think you look. They find weaknesses and attatch themselves to them. If they see you get upset over a name or a quote they will keep using it to hurt you... that's just what they do. You should learn to have a thicker skin. I guess they just think "oh haha, robot fight aliens" and skip all the so called 'boring' text. Most VNs are character based stories because they work best with the medium. Muv Luv is no exception to this. The reason you play Extra and Unlimited is because they are essential parts of the story and each character arc. You get NOTHING and I mean nothing if you play through Alternative without doing at least one route in both Extra and Unlimited. I guess you understand to story events and the lore but you might as well read the wiki if you're just reading it for that.
