In the last question, I disagree with your analysis. If formation of the acylium is the rate-determining step, there would be no substituent effect, as the substituent is on the aniline component, not the acyl chloride. Attack on either the acylium or acyl chloride would result in a build-up of positive charge on N proximal to the X substituent, though there would be a more significant positive charge development following attack on the acylium. However, without performing the related Hammett analysis varying the Y substituent on the acyl chloride, it is not conclusive whether aroyl chlorides react via acylium formation or via direct attack. Anilines are sufficiently nucleophilic and benzoyl chloride is sufficiently electrophilic, so reaction occurs directly via addition-elimination, rather than via the acylium (typically only observed when a Lewis acid is present, or with hindered aryl ring-containing acylating agents like 2,6-disubstituted benzoyl systems (cf. AAC1 mechanism of hydrolysis).
