Very first item looks like it might be a piece of a broken crotal bell.

I thought it could be that. I just haven't been able to find an example of one with a piece that looks to be that shape. Thanks!

Even if it's not an original, it'd be cool to see it restored. Seeing the bare tang makes me kinda sad. It should have a proper handle on it!

I did find a piece of the original handle with it, but a new one would look nice after it's cleaned up

I found a dress sword once while cruising timber in Indiana Turned it in to owner. His grand kids had taken his Blue Lodge masonic sword and lost it in the woods. Crazy thing to find a sword in this day

Definitely a modern day repro. But, that's still a NICE find. I'd be more curious about how a repro came to be found there than if I'd found an original artifact. Maybe there was a reenactment in the last 50 years or so.
@WestVirginiaRelicSeekers
@WestVirginiaRelicSeekers 9 ай бұрын
I had the same thoughts, likely dropped by a reenactor or lost by their kids/grandkids is my best guess

Nice find none the less. Im not much of a sword expert but i am a bit into knives so i was curious to find out if swords of that era had rat tail tangs, i would think not. Also the cutting edge looks very uniform and blunt, if the edge was sharp and rusted unevenly i would think it would be in more rough a shape. I would definitely put that up on display, it is quite a find. I wonder how it got there.
@WestVirginiaRelicSeekers
@WestVirginiaRelicSeekers 9 ай бұрын
Yeah, from what i was able to research rat tail tangs are used in non-combat swords. It'll be going on my wall after I run it through electrolysis for sure though. I'll post an updated video once I get it done.

The difference between the amount of good finds in NY versus NC is really significant. Makes me wonder if it's because the people living in NC in the 1700's and later didn't have much to lose to begin with. Still, you did a lot better than most people I've heard from who attended so good for you!
