Although I'm originally from New Marske (1956-1981) just over a mile away, I have spent many times in Marske by the Sea in the 60s/70s. I went to Senior School there too, back in the day it was called Bydales County Modern (1967- 1971) 0.34 The Zetland Hotel where I have had many a pint and at 0.45 the old Railway Bridge which I have crossed so many times. 1.34 Marske Square where I met my very first girlfriend in 1968 when I was just 12 years old) 😃 2.12 The Valley Gardens where as kids we used to hang out and The Beach at 2.30 which was part of our School Cross Country Course. 2.55 The Ship where I had my wedding reception in 1981. Nice to see Marske is still looking good and thanks for the video, brings back great memories. 😃

There are some lovely stone buildings there, but Loftus, like many former industrial and mining towns, now has the usual problems of unemployment, deprivation, etc., which the borough council has to sort out.

Thank you for sharing. I lived in Harpenden twice in my life. First time, I was 19 and moved in with my first love (before I ruined the relationship) This was the flat that sits over what used to be a grocers and post office (not sure what type of shops they are now). Head out of Harpenden on the Luton road, it was over that group of four shops just after the nicky line. Second time aged 43 was another 100 meters further from the old group of shops on same side of road. Moved here with My Australian wife and our 18 month old son. Absolutely love Harpenden - my all time favourite place to live in the UK. Been living in Australia a since 2004. Thanks again - Glenn

My father worked at Scammells in the 60s as a fitter /welder, on weekends he would take me to the Busy Bee Cafe on the A41 for a cup of tea and a look at the [ now classic ] motorcycles. There was usually a Pickfords Scammell [constructor] parked in the lay-by beside the cafe and sometimes a giant swan neck trailer would be left there. Another place to see heavy haulage was Wally's Cafe just up from the Busy Bee. I was lucky enough to go on probably the last open day at Scammells back in the late 70s or early 80s.Open days in Industry just don't happen anymore. Another famous name from Watfords industrial heritage.
@randomroveruk67152 жыл бұрын
As with everything, things change and not always for the best it seems. At least you have your memories! It's sad to think all those individual transport cafes have been replaced by generic motorway services.
@nrs912 жыл бұрын
Official count was 27 Scammells in total. We would have loved more but it was a popular weekend for events and fuel costs are high at the moment so we were overjoyed with the support from vehicle owners and visitors!
