Thanks for your kind words. I can't comment too much on the branch composition on this base as it's part of the models sculpt

Cheers for the kind words. It's the one thing I commend resin bases for especially the unreal wargaming ones. The sculpt does such heavy lifting that simple techniques really show them off and your mini

I bought one of the rubber things and they are good. They are are even more stable if you stick 2 other pots in the other slots. Means if you are doing your 3 colour contrast battle ready, you can just chuck them all in it and they keep the open one more stable.

I would start with orruk skin for a green-yellow tone. How would you shade layer and highlight? Thanks for the high value tutorials .
@mugsofdoomminisАй бұрын
If you're going to start with orruk flesh as a starting point there's a variety of colours you could use as highlights Nurgling green is similar but lighter for subtle stuff but ogryn camo followed by krieg khaki could keep the pale highlights Spending on tonal shades you could shade down with waagh flesh or wash with a tinned contrast like warp lightning or creed camo depending on tonal variation you might want
@stitchreloaded9044Ай бұрын
In your opinion, does this technique work well on base's without the detail complexity of yours?
@mugsofdoomminisАй бұрын
At its core the main effect on the base is a gradient which would work on any base. Even a flat one. You could do the isometric vapourwave lines on top of it on a flat base for example Having a base with some industrial details even if it's just some wires or a bit of plastic that looks like corrugated steel glued down will make a difference in its appearance causing things to pop
@stitchreloaded9044Ай бұрын
Yeah so flat base is really not working out so well. Having a lot of pooling on the flat surfaces. Maybe with an airbrush, but I think this is a no-go for my arena surface. Still thanks for the great tutorial.

I used to struggle with bases too, then I realised I was using all the wrong stuff. My biggest pet peeve was seeing people go” and now it’s based “ seeing a beautifully detailed environment and I think, where you get that from? @mugsofdoomminis4 ай бұрын
the trick is none of them are perfect. The camera hides a lot of imperfections and you can always touch up with your previous colour if you're not happy. Try not to worry about being perfect and you will soon add them to your painting toolkit :)
@euanthompson4 ай бұрын
I found the daunting bit not believing it would build up. The best thing you can do is start on something you are less bothered by and build up to the nice models. My Gaunts for example are 1 highlight thick coats for tabletop, and it really built up my confidence on brush work and paint coverage. As I moved to different models I used thinner coats and more coats and more highlights. It really helps. Do the chaff first when you are less confident in a technique.

Love this!! Subbed and liked! How did you do the buttons if I may be so bold?
@mugsofdoomminis4 ай бұрын
Glad you liked it! The buttons are done in the same way folks do gem stones or lenses. Paint the base of the darkest colour and pick a bottom corner ( do it the same for all buttons ) then highlight progressively smaller areas with a lighter shade with a white dot in the opposite top corner

Looks awesome! Very inventive using dark reaper as a shade, when it comes to the verdigris/weathering on your brass trim do you add any oxide colours to the trim?
@mugsofdoomminis4 ай бұрын
Thank you for your kind words :) oxidising is absolutely something you could apply to the trim here. The trick with verdigris is to use lots of reference images and remember that oxidisation tends to happen in the recesses. As for colours there are a whole bunch you can use, you don’t necessarily have to use a specific technical paint for it, find your favourite teal and turquoise paints, baharoth blue and gauss blaster green heavily thinned are good colours to use from games workshop

It is really nice to see someone paint the base with a brush rather than "Oh don't worry, just airbrush"
@mugsofdoomminis5 ай бұрын
I mean airbrush is nice but it’s not the be all. It’s a tool to help speed up certain effects everything an airbrush does hairy stick does, just airbrush speeds things up

I would recommend Colour Forge over GW spray. They actually match the finish. I have done tests and I kid you not when I say if you painted a panel of the colour match with the brush you can not tell which panel it was when dried.
@mugsofdoomminis5 ай бұрын
Oh absolutely but the bulk of my views come from America where there is less access to their products. Recommending gw is so everyone can have a reference point even if they prefer another brands paint range

I’m glad you found it helpful. Rule number one of painting minis. Never compare yourself to others only yourself. If you just started running you wouldn’t compare yourself times to an Olympic runner cos you’d be disheartened. Paint because you enjoy it. Each time you paint you get better even if you don’t notice it. Hang onto the very first mini you paint and you will notice how far you progress much easier. Everyone starts somewhere and if you enjoyed doing it, don’t you dare let anyone tell you that your models aren’t amazing. I bet yours look great. Happy hobbying :)
