Why was the guy ahead of the camera riding the brakes and not even using the berms? A little courage and he'd get the exhilaration which such a section can give. 39 Steps was one of my favourite features of Thetford, at least the guy up in front gave it some at the start of it on the second run though, you could hear his enjoyment in his whooping!

Its 'cos its Nick ;-) To be honest it was the first time we'd ever done anything like that. We've been a few times since and its improved...although Nick is still Nick, I nearly collected him on more than one occasion in the Forest of Dean a few weeks back

Alan Sanders Lolz. It sounds like he should be at the back of the group. Teach him about compression into the berms and how you can increase your speed. He'll love it once he gets the hang of it I'm sure.

I've not done the quantocks but I've ridden on the Mendips a couple of times, some really good trails round there

I think on this one we started at Kiln Farm. Can't remember the exact route but this bit starts from the Railway walk at Stonebridge

I couldn't figure out if the beast was to the right or straight on...They both seem about the same.

I mostly cycle redways, canal but looks like there's some interesting bridleways too so I'll look them up.

+Chris Norris There are some surprisingly good little trails around...no mountains but good all the same :-) check out facebook.com/groups/267169686760157/ for some ride and group ideas. I'll start positing in there again when our weekly rides start again in March

oliver wilkins I agree I ride DH/FR but as a local trail I don't mind shredding through here every now and again

Used to ride that route all the time, then turn round and go back in the opposite direction, so much quicker. Got bit by a whippet once, flippin' dog walkers!
