Hey there! I have the same camera and it’s absolutely amazing! I really enjoy using it! As for the shutter speed, if I'm not mistaken, that camera has customizable buttons and I believe you can change them. Personally, and since I have the other back, I have the aperture set on the back dial and the shutter on the top dial!

Could someone tell me the difference between this & the elan 7 in terms of image quality
@TheWutang19956 күн бұрын
If you're using the same lens there shouldn't be any image quality difference between the 2. I believe the Elan 7 has better autofocus but the 1n has a better build quality with weather sealing as well as a faster max shutter speed. Edit: I'm sure there's other differences I'm missing but one I just remembered is the 1n viewfinder is 100% coverage while the elan 7 is 90%
@cas439225 күн бұрын
Can anyone tell me if this is better than the elan 7 in terms of photo quality? From what I’ve seen, they are the same camera except the 1n is built sturdier & the elan 7 has better focusing

Amazing pictures, Josh! There is something about these old canon bodies that is just perfect. A couple months ago I bought a 5D mark III just as a camera to have with me without thinking too much about breaking it and since then I love it and use it so much more than I initially thought 😃

I've got one for a bit now with the bigger grip that holds 8 AA batteries lol; it's a tank. You mentioned the extra step setting the shutter speed. I thought on mine, I could just use the back scroll wheel instead?

Great video Josh! Just watched your unboxing and I think I am in the same boat as you. Ive tried so many film cameras. From the F3, Leica iii, Rollei 35 and countless medium format cameras, but just never connected with any of them. As a Canon digital shooter this seems like it's the camera for me. Same form factor as my 6D. Ebay here I come! Looking forward to your next video!

So its only for photo? Thanks for the info, but Fuji seems to disagree because there is this movie / still twist knob. Would be fair if companies started being more honest for what their cameras can be used.

How does this camera compare to the Canon eos 1v?? I'm debating between the two. I would greatly appreciate input and opinions on the two cameras.
@JoshKobyАй бұрын
The EOS 1v has a few more bells and whistles, including better AF with more AF points. Is it a better camera? Of course. But, if it worth the 3-4x price tag? I personally don't think so. I'd go with EOS 1-N and invest in better glass!
@aleksanderdomanski2222 ай бұрын
One more suggestion - try overexposing Portra about 1 stop. I mean use 400 @200 or 160 @100. This will give you very nice, a bit washed up images.
@JoshKobyАй бұрын
Cool! I usually prefer more contrast over less, but i'm willing to give this a shot!
@aleksanderdomanski2222 ай бұрын
Man, 50/1.8 is top glass hidden in plastick. It is damn good, L- lenses are only better built but optically 1.8 is really top (especially closed a bit). Only downside od older "nifty-fifty" is 5 blades apurture. Do not be mislead by Canon`s naming - there are lots od hiden gems without "L" in designation (85/1.8 is another). I am in Canon for years, have lots of "L" lenses but bo not feel any need to upgrade from 50/1.8 (other than it being worn of by constant usage). Anyway - lens you have is great. Plus it is small and lightweight - put it next to Sigma Art 50/1.4 and you will understand that.

Hey! Good to see someone talk about it. VSCO is so simple and atmospheric! It's like you can have your own secret world... I was so surprised to see my childhood town (small town in Eastern Ukraine) to be included in a few photos on VSCO. (The town being tagged in VSCO was a sensation to me.) (I have been living in Canada for the past 13 years.) Comparing VSCO and Instagram, is like comparing a small, but cozy library with no Wifi and a tiny coffee shop where everyone won't use their phones while fully being immersed in the world of reading, ( there is one in Amsterdam) versus an enormous, overrated library in the middle of some of the largest cities in the world, where there is Wifi with all kinds of eateries and way too many people. (So many folks, it's even hard to find a spot to sit.) I feel like to best way to get VSCO followers, is to have a decent and/or popular Instagram and/or any other social media, and link your VSCO page, rather than through VSCO itself. If that makes sense. (Of course, most people would have to create a page to follow you, while other might already have it.) And have my sub!

Really great video and insights ! I’m currently deciding between the 50S II and a7R IV. I’d really like to get into medium format and my personal workflow is pretty slow so I don’t think the autofocus on the 50S II would be too much of a hinderance for me so I might have to go for it.

I've been tempted,& I've looked for film stock focused books but I think KZbin can be a good source of learning more of the ends,& outs in terms of various film speeds,& their effects in different lighting conditions? Seeing this video pop up reminded me that I have until the 27th to return mine, so need to put a roll in to see if there's any light leaks or other malfunctions-Thanks.

I just got mine in the mail a few days ago. Paid $200 plus S&H. I already own the Eos Elan iie but wanted to get a 'Pro' film camera for what I assume to have improved specs. I'm fairly ignorant on film stock short of knowing that higher speeds are less grainy than a 100 or 50 speed film-love to see videos on this topic

Nice video, Josh, and even better shots! I have an EOS 1N-HS that I picked up a few months ago, with a 50mm f1.4 on it most of the time. It is excellent, and feels more or less like a 35mm equivalent of my 5D MkII and 90D. I have shot mostly Ektar 100 with it so far, which has been excellent. You just can't go wrong. I'm keen to try my 24-70 L f2.8 on it.

Thank you! I'll have to try out Ektar 100 some time soon.
@munnsie1003 ай бұрын
@@JoshKoby I found the exposure/metering to be spot on with Ektar 100 (and this was the first time I had shot a roll). Very very accurate results and more or less a verbatim reproduction of what you see through the viewfinder.
@finkerr60773 ай бұрын
it all about compromises for me, if you need a camera with all the bells and whistles and you're mostly going to be using it in the studio, go for the huge one. However if you primarily shoot on the street or travel with cameras for documentary projects, you are not going to need all the features and therefor can find a much smaller camera that will be easier to carry for hours and hours. I really loved my Hasselblad 500cm but for what I shoot it is completely impractical and cumbersome, so bigger cameras are not always better for every usecase.

100% big, had a sony a100 fail on me and had to compensate with a sony a230 (both are cheap, and i like minolta lenses). and even thought they are insanely similar, the a230 has a thinner, worse grip(i am literaly in love with how big the a100 grip is) , and one less dial for certain settings. so big versus slightly less big, but i share my point.

at last someone in the film photography space talking as an actual photographer!! i agree a 100 per cent, if a camera does the job you don't care about weight or size, one of my favorite cameras is the mamiya C330 and there's nothing else to do with it than accepting it size and weight. when it comes to the EOS 1n this camera feels near perfect in the hand and the weight is not an issue at all. keep up the good work!
