When I was an Officer in the RAF, I once had an RAF lad who was on my roster but during my 3-year tour I only ever met him once. His wife lived on our base in Quarters but he was never there. Nobody told me officially that he existed or where he was but the lads in the section let me know.... He came to a social event once when he was back in the area. Sadly, I did hear, after I got posted, that his wife eventually had enough and divorced him. Must have had balls of steel to do what he was doing. Also met guys in the RAF with very specialist int skills that had done incredible stuff during the cold war, Bosnia, Kosovo etc.

They're not ranked among the best of the world because very little is known about them, but sure as hell they're tier one and they get it done. Even after being an special forces commando, the selection process is extremely rigorous and you need to be invited by a member of this unit.

It is well known the cartels in Mexico have ex-servicemen from orher countries, some of them were part of special units in their countries and mercenaries, recently I saw in the Mexican News that 2 Colombians and 1 Salvadorian fled from cartel groups in separate events and asked for help as they supposedly were hired as bodyguards, the colombians were part of the special forces in Colombia with experience in Ukraine, in other cases, those dead cartel members had IDs from other countries.
