Based on the way this has been built, not seeing an advantage over garage storage. Maybe better with vents opposing each other on the side and door. Position fan on side wall to pull the air over the generator. Roof vent with cap will allow heat escape via the ‘chimney effect’. Additionally, venting exhaust out will prevent carbon monoxide build up inside that could be a fire hazard. Adding insulation, as commented, would help sound reduction but, the way this is built it would also trap heat inside.

3 weeks and $1600!!! No exhaust port and not enough air flow for that generator. You're going to want to have cool air running over the cylinder head and the electronics for the inverters.

I'm a bit confused... at the 7:24 minute mark, I see you screwing in the 2"X6" back brace to the new stringer. The back brace is painted pink higher up at the repair area but not AT the repair area. Are those two separate 2X6's butted against each other or is the 2X6 one solid piece of lumber running all along the entire stringer? Thanks!
@alsacs3635
@alsacs3635 2 ай бұрын
Yes, those are two separate 2x6's butted up against each other. The reason is because both the stringer and the back brace were both rotted out at the bottom of the staircase. Notice how I cut more of the stringer so that the back brace extended down further and therefore allowed for an area to screw the new stringer onto the old back brace.

Central texas here so I'm building one somewhat similar to yours. I'm doing a double door on the horizontal equivalent of where yours is since that's the orientation for the side of my house where it will be. Anyways job well done sir.

Every shed I see on KZbin is build less than a foot off ground. What about when the water gets higher? Is there a reason not to build the platform at least 12 inches higher than ground level?
@alsacs3635

I made the slab for my shed 7" high and I could have went higher but my house is outside of the flood zone so I'm not worried about flooding. The only hard part is lifting the generator to place it inside the shed. Also a 12" thick slab is a lot of cement so unless you really need it that high, I would not make it thicker than 7".

How does the hot exhaust exit the shed? Did you extend the exhaust pipe to pass through the wall?
@alsacs3635
@alsacs3635 Жыл бұрын
Yes, that's correct. I had to add an exhaust pipe through the back wall otherwise the fume sensor on the generator turns the unit off.

I have all of the receipts from Home Depot and that's what it cost. Also, my nail gun broke so I had to buy a new one, but I did not include that in the cost of the build.

Albeit this is a low use generator but nevertheless you need to be concerned about the interior shed temp. In my build I ended up upgrading from a 12" 840 CFM fan to a 16" ACInfinity fan with 3,000 cfm. My research suggests you don't want a temp. rise of more than 15F above ambient. Consider a remote thermometer for the interior and also perhaps a bimetallic thermal switch (NO) connected to the low oil circuit that will shut the generator in the event of fire or a fan failure. There are two excellent KZbin videos on how to do this. After finding the max. operating interior temp buy a switch for a little higher temp. In my case where climate is constant year round (no global warming here). I saw max. interior temps of 85-88F and ended up buying a normally open switch for 50C or 122F. Checked with a hairdryer and it shuts off the gen. Owners typically plug the fan into a 110 outlet on the generator. A lot of generators use GFI outlets which are very sensitive and can trip when you are not there. It happened to me and I replaced these with standard outlets. Proper sound insulation can get very expensive if you do it right. So decide if you really need it before going down that path.

Everybody in Houston finally getting prepared. Amazing what a little cold spell will do. I'm in Katy just an fyi that shed is going to get extremely hot inside. Not sure what genset you're using but even when I run my exhaust out like most folks on youtube it still gets very hot in the shed. I have a generac 17500 so it's a beast but I'm guessing the Rockwool doesn't help and I have 3 fans sucking about 3300 cfm out. Do some test runs my one of my fans shut down at 130 degrees. Nice build it looks fantastic.

You actually paid money for the parts? What is wrong with your warranty? I can understand wanting to do the install yourself.
@alsacs3635
@alsacs3635 2 жыл бұрын
The warranty only covers parts if you take the truck in for service. The parts department refused to "give" me the screws since only the service dept. Can pull parts for free. Normally I would drop off the vehicle for service but I would need to take time off from work to do that. In this case, the screws cost 72 cents so I decided to pay for them myself and install it on a Saturday.

You have natural gas a few feet away. You should convert the generator to natural gas and run it off the house so you'll never run out of gas...

Top notch job. I agree, hope you're going to use rock wool to sound insulate it. Also, looks like your using a thermostatically controlled fan. Great idea if so. Most genny shed builders just run the fan off the generator. However, when the genny cuts off, it still givesi off a lot of heat for awhile. I used a little transfer switch to provide power to the fan for awhile afterwards. I ran power and installed an outlet in the shed for the transfer switch to connect and to power a light inside. Keep up the great work.
@alsacs3635
@alsacs3635 2 жыл бұрын
You are correct, I installed a thermostatic controlled fan. I also ran conduit from the house with power so that the fan and interior light will always have power. Whether the power is coming from the home or the generator, the fan will always have power because I will leave the breaker for that particular outlet in the On position.
