And we're back ... not Analog TV, but the National Anthem. All Gray TV stations will be airing the national anthem at some point during their broadcast day beginning this week.

Wow that is extremely rare to see a stack train on the Marion Branch. I actually never seen one in real life or on video ever until now.

It is a regular run. But still something special.

Ok then. Cool catch though.

I'm glad that the South Shore still uses classification lights on it's MU's, a long outdated practice by many railroads. In this case, "White Lights" for this non-revenue run back to Shops! Grew up in love with it! :)
@justalurker666 жыл бұрын
White is "Extra Train" ... normally a train that is not on the regular schedule. The South Shore uses them for the dead heads as well as for true extra trains (football/baseball specials, charters). I appreciate seeing their use.

Wow, I've never seen the pans jump up like that, impressive! I thought deadhead moves back to the Shops did accept passengers, or has this policy since been changed?
@justalurker6610 жыл бұрын
I would not expect a deadhead to accept passengers (unless there was a special circumstance, such as a passenger sleeping past their stop).A good pan spark is a bucket list shot. :)

Very nice video. I don't know about you, but I really don't like that new platform at Dune Park. It ruined the great nature view. They should have atleast done something like at the Ogden Dunes Station instead of this.

The new interlocking allows two NICTD line trains to pass at the same time ... which helps with conflicts. Westbound trains bypassing Kensington station completely helps with conflicts there. The down side is the end of NICTD South Shore service to Kensington ... but there were few passengers at Kensington.
@justalurker6610 жыл бұрын
The advantage is that westbound (inbound to Chicago) no longer have to pass the Kensington station platform to get to Chicago. They go straight from the NICTD line to either track 3 or track 4 of the Metra line without conflicting with Metra traffic at Kensington. Crossing the CN tracks isn't as big of a problem ... although as part of this work the crossovers were improved to allow NICTD South Shore trains to cross more quickly. (The old diamond crossing was also improved.)

OK I'm from Philadelphia so I'm not too familiar with the area here. What is the advantage of this new connection over the old? As I understand, in both cases you still have to cross the CN freight tracks, right? Thanks.
@futurefirefighter99767 жыл бұрын
you do have to cross with both, but with the new connection if there is a metra train stopped at the station the nictd train can just pass it, this is especially useful during rush hour because it won't create a backlog of traffic caused by trains stopping at the station seeing that for metra it isn't a flag stop.

Good catch I ride on the Metra Electric from Flossmoor Station to Chicago Millennium Station Station from time to time. I look for any changes along the line. This is one of the changes I was curious about.
@CSullivanmeerkatmandude12 жыл бұрын
I was wondering what was going on with the South Shore line Interlocking into the Metra Electric line. The new layout is new to me. So the South Shore trains no longer stop at Kensington 115Th Street? Would the South Shore trains just bypass Kensington 115Th Street all together? The older Interlocking layout could only let 1 train throw at a time.

now if only all of Metra and other tracks were electrified in the Midwest
@4000Acela12 жыл бұрын
interesting. This train literally bypasses the Kesington station itself.

GREAT SHOT! I work near this area a lot, which is not too far from Metra's Southside Electric shop.

Did they really play the national anthem before they cut?! That's awesome! My local cbs station just kinda quit . Anyway thanks for uploading.

I like this video, especially the way the announcer gave the technical info in the past tense and with a seeming sense of pride for WNDU's analog mission successfully accomplished "THIS, was WNDU-TV, Channel 16, South Bend") I used to work in TV, so please excuse the gushing over an otherwise dull ending. Was WNDU founded or owned by Notre Dame, per the call letters? Rich Rodriguez West Covina, CA
