Can you tell me what is the best rooting medium to use for propagation? I see some videos where they always leave some leaves on to help with propagation, is this necessary?
@brownthumbnursery
@brownthumbnursery 2 ай бұрын
I usually leave the leaves on the very top, but I’ve found that they do fine stripping them off on the rest of the stem.

@@brownthumbnursery what is the best medium to use for rooting, and once they are rooted do you put them in individual pots? When do you plant them in the garden?
@brownthumbnursery
@brownthumbnursery 2 ай бұрын
It really depends on what type of propagation area you have. If you have an enclosed propagation frame where there is no airflow, you definitely want to use sand, so that you don’t get mold and mildew. If you are doing it in an open shade house like I have in this video, You can use just whatever kind of potting soil that you use. It needs to hold moisture, but drain well. And yes. After they have rooted well, I put them each individually into their own pot. I like to pot them up when they are dormant, just getting ready to wake up for the spring. That way they root into their new pot.

Hi Rob, I saw some of this comfrey on Amazon but I didn't know which kind to get. What kind are those that you've got and why do you have that certain kind? They had one called something, something 14, I didn't even know what that meant. I didn't know if that was for a special zone that you live in, or what. I live in zone 7A in Kentucky and I don't know if I'm supposed to get a special kind for this area. I wanted to grow some comfrey because I know it makes good compost. Well, thanks for any help. God bless y'all Jude, from Kentucky ✝️ 🐴 🇺🇸 ❣️

What you want is Russian comfrey bocking 14. The reason is that the other kind is extremely invasive it spreads from seeds. The Bocking 14 seeds are sterile, so it mostly spreads from its roots. & of corse that’s how you propagate it. By the way, I don’t think I did an update video about this, but they all grew great!!
