@improversgaming14 күн бұрын
Ya, this looked tough. I feel maps like this punish a lack of precision: small differences in pathing, movement, BFG utility etc. can lead to the map overrunning you. Have you ever played a tough map like this a couple of times after you beat it? I find that I can run it and master it pretty quickly once I get to the point of beating it (most of the time). I often play with pushing my completion time to see if I can beat it even faster (just as background practice). I often do it as it usually takes a lot of effort for me to beat a map for the first time so the extra stretch to mastering it is usually not much more and can be good fun. Just asking as you seem to be glad to get past some of these. Thanks.
@Flyxolydian9111 күн бұрын
I do replay some of the tougher maps that I've beaten (with saves), and as you say, they do seem a lot easier than before as you've already developed the strategies to beat them. Saving definitely takes the pressure off too. This one is extemely RNG-based though, to the point where it isn't all that fun.

I've made it look a lot easier than it is here, a lot of these fights took a lot of trial and error to figure out good strategies for. Mostly it's about carrying over resources to the following fights to reduce the risk (the most important one being 15:50... I basically need all of my health and armour for the following fight)
@improversgaming14 күн бұрын
Not too much happening on this map, lots of cells and a BFG but I like that you had to flip the switches to spell EXIT.

Still planning on doing Wilou's MAP30? Really liked that one, curious to see how you'd tackle it. I had a harder time with it than anything in Sunlust! Good job with this, I had to do the south glide and come back with a BFG to beat Roofi's section with any consistency!

Yep, it's on my list! I have 3 tough maps that all need doing (Wilou's MAP30, his MAP10 from Tangerine Nightmare, and MAP20 of the Mini-Sunder WAD). That 3rd one is very close, as I've made the final fight twice now.

Such a strange map… the encounters setup leave a lot to be desired man… I feel like a lot more enemies should be spawning, considering how big the maps spaces are, and empty in some places. @Flyxolydian9123 күн бұрын
Go right ahead! Most of the fights actually become fairly trivial with this route, which is great. Probably the most important one is the odd rev/caco/cyber wing fight before the BFG, as you need to keep hold of as much health as possible going in to the BFG right.
@andreylong1869Ай бұрын
Fun little map, except player gets stuck for good if finds BFG after reaching the exit. I'm pretty sure this map is doable with no damage taken; quite unusual even for micro slaughter.

I liked the overall concept/progression/layout of this map, less so the particulars. The chance to get outta the first room for me was like 30%, and then something similar for the second room: skellies just won't behave. Didn't truly practice though, just a playthrough with saves. Would also make some other things slightly different, like make that archvile platform 16?32? units higher, so they can be dealt with using rev missiles faster. Arachno fight is cute. I didn't even realize you have RL. With CG only strat I used is hiding behind the elevated ones (you can get properly behind), then semi-hiding behind others. RL makes it MUCH simpler actually if you can remove 2 low ones from one side immediately.
@Flyxolydian91Ай бұрын
Yep, you get 5 rockets for the Arachnotron room, which punches enough of a hole to simplify things a tonne. I completely messed up here, dunno why I didn't switch to the chaingun haha. For the Archie, he can get hit with splash damage from the Cyber too, have had that happen before. It's not an easy map though, and took a while to get down.

It did take about 20 minutes of experimenting to figure it out, and it was a pure desperation move because I thought there would be way too many Hell Knights for it to work 😅 There's probably enough rocket ammo in the arena to do it though, it's not risky to go and quickly grab them before the Rev's get you.

And to me that strat looked like the only one from the get-go, albeit happened kinda randomly, just did it on the first try, liked the result, kept doing. Do confirm it's doable fine before the secret fight. My issues were with my bad movement, not lack of ammo 🙂 Gotta grab the rockets on the run from the switch though. As for the secret fight: fun fact: it's possible to get into the secret by SR40ing from triangular lift across the gap to the next wall section and then dropping behind the bars. It was the bars not lowering even after the fight that got me suspicious and sent me on a switch hunt. And yay! - indeed there is a normal way in 😀 Megas are placed devilishly inconvenient, trying to not pick them up while dodging stuff is like the main challenge of the fight. Liked the wad!

This MIDI is absolutely gorgeous! Being a UT2k4 & UT3 player myself in the past, even guessed correctly this sounds awful lot like UT series tracks 🙂 And now it also got me thinking: could this track from '99 inspire Rik Schaffer's Downtown Theme for VTMB (2004)?
@Flyxolydian912 ай бұрын
Yeah I'll be honest, only figured out what they did halfway through the fight when stuff kept randomly dying haha. As to the Downtown theme, not sure.
