That’s awesome! I still love these tunes. We were in the middle of rehearsals for a reunion when Covid hit and Jason Berkman moved to Texas so it all fell apart. Such a bummer. We had several new tunes too.

I'm also into transparent clean boost and overdrive without the midrange hump. Have you tried swapping the order of these pedals to have the Lightspeed push the input of the Southland? You might find it a bit more versatile as it will quickly give you two more distinct flavors of gain on the Southland.

My thing is how does it sound on a lead channel of like say blue channel evh 5153 or Marshall dsl red channel like a tubescreamer is like volume all the way up tone about middle and drive down

A boost / treble boost and a mild overdrive , any bb style , klone clone or TS do exactly the same but if you want to spend 500 bucks in a fancy drive and not use the drive knob to cross the flat line then do what this guy does , light speed can do great drives and southland crunch but you won't get it and the unity level if you get the volume up and lower the gain it works the other way around and ad more volume from your amp
@JasonGutierrez

Wrong. Klon or TS add mids, TS cuts low end. I’ve experimented with MANY versions of those pedals. I don’t want a pedal that adds stuff I don’t want to hear or takes away stuff I do want to hear. Greer stuff doesn’t change your basic EQ, that’s what TRANSPARENT is all about. And it didn’t cost me $500 for the two pedals. However, I recently replaced the Southland with the Black Mountain Crunch Drive and it’s Plexi Crunch perfection.

@JasonGutierrez a ts style pedal like most people when used as a boost , no gain , tone 9 o clock volume noon bingo a clean boost that adds some dirt but by cutting the tone you bring down mids too for the past 40th years people is been doing that no rocket science if you go like most flat you gonna have mids , the magic on a drive pedals happens when you push the gain , specially with this "transparent drives that add the clean signal to the distorded signal , it works like the OP and soft clipping drives , yes ts and klones are full of mid-range but none cuts low frequency specially the new clones tumnus has great lows better that the original circuit , keeley oxblood , jhs moonshine , duellist (has both ts and bb) all have the toggle to add bass , hyped names and beautiful enclosures in a 10 dollar circuit just like the klon and the irony , the one who paid the one who believes its magic

@@popchanpop970 you’re not paying attention. I use gain pedals like channels on my amp. I leave the Lightspeed on 90% of the time and the inherent sound and feel of any amp I plug it in to (I have many amps) is maintained and improved, and I’m able to get more overdrive or edge of breakup sounds without being cranked up to ear ringing levels. I fully understand how people use Tube Screamers and Klons. I’ve used them. I’ve been in this game since 1986. And I said the TS loses low end NOT the Klon. I’ve almost never paid full price for a pedal. I’ve built several pedals myself. The Greer stuff works, there’s no bias here, the proof is in the pudding. My buddy has an expensive King of Tone and I hate it when compared to my pedals. I also have an Analog Man Sun Face I custom ordered and paid too much for cause my Dunlop Shrine series Fuzz Face is right on par with it and cost a 3rd of the price. I don’t judge anything by the price, I judge it by the sound, but I am willing to pay a bit more if I know what I’m getting. I can coax a good sound out of almost anything at this stage of the game. Most of my guitars are not expensive. I have very few guitars that cost over $1000 and the same with my collection of amps, though they are worth more now. Stop hating and trolling and go play your guitar. ✌️

I preferred the sound with the Southland on the guitar side. There’s no right or wrong or wrong way. I leave the Lightspeed on all the time set for just a little edge and kick on Southland when extra gain is needed. Experiment and see which way sounds best to your ears.

The '67 Gibbs is my favourite! It's smooth, tight and a bit brighter compared to the Accutronics. The '65 also sounds great, but when you do the big chord in the beginning it sounds a bit like something is (maybe the springs themselves?) rattling inside of it. I'm no expert in spring reverbs, so maybe it's supposed to sound like that?

the lightspeed is a bit like a treble booster i have an ephelion and its great! its a low to mid gain mix cutter i find it lacking bass maybe even low mids for a certain amp it will be the best ever! and other amps not so much but that goes for all gear right ! they should make pedals for specific amp guitar combos if it sounds good on everything then great on nothing
@JasonGutierrez
@JasonGutierrez 2 жыл бұрын
Interesting. Part of the whole point of this was showing how the Lightspeed is transparent and doesn't add or cut any frequency in the spectrum when set to unity gain, and beyond that it adds harmonic content, cutting nothing, so I'm not sure why it sounds like a treble booster to you when it is a transparent gain/harmonic booster with all of the multiple amps I own.
