I bought my first foil from windance in 2023, an fcs 1480. Perfect foil to learn on with my 120 l board. But now that I’m on a 78l board now hitting Al my jibes I’m trying to figure out what the next foil will be. Larry

Hi Dave. Thanks for this video. But what about heavy guys like me (I'm 6'4 and 220 pounds)? What sort of foil do you recommend for starting out?
@windance
@windance 3 ай бұрын
An F-One Gravity 1800 or 2200 would provide great lift to get you up and foiling quickly. I'd go 2200 if you're in light wind conditions mostly and 1800 if you've got moderate wind in the mid teens mph. If you're most often going to be using it in moderate wind, you could also try moving down to a Phantom 1680, which would take a little more power from your wing to get up on foil with but would provide smoother lift, more speed, and be something you'd keep in your quiver longer due to its versatility.

So you can use a mid V (Core bar) with low V kite? What about when you flag out? Any concerns?
@scottmeineke3820

A couple hundred dollars? More like several hundred dollars. Take care of your equipment, and it will take care of you😊😊. Always soak your bar after each days use in fresh water, and hang dry. Always check your lines for wear, and knots on a regular schedule. Always check that safety system is functioning as it should, and free of sand, corosion...... Do not wear abrasive gloves that will destroy your bar grip. Do not leave your bar laying, or hanging in the sun on a regular basis for long periods when not in use.(like kite schools) UV damage is the biggest destroyer of your equipment, as is leaving your kite flapping in the wind on a sunny beach all day. Take care, Happy Kiteboarding.😊

hello I now use a 1900 jp glide wind 19 1850 very good but slow (cap at 12 knots) easy to use. I am 70kg and I have an inflatable 103l board, tried my 1100 glide 11 and I found hard to bring out ot the water, should be a problem of the drag of inflatable in the non foiling glide? I just bought a hard board should i have to retry? the wind should be good enought (18 knots) when I tryed without luck. The 1100 on windsurf was good. thanks
@windance
@windance 3 ай бұрын
Yes, definitely give it another go. 103L is a fairly small inflatable board for learning. We usually recommend people start on hard boards 120L+ or inflatables 140L+. Inflatables are less stable than hard boards but take up less space in the garage, so we always recommend starting on a hard board or an inflatable that's 20+ liters larger than an equivalent hard board so you get a little bit more stability. hard boards are also more efficient due to their more highly contoured profiles and hull shapes, so should enable you to taxi up quicker and easier.

What's the ballpark price on something like this? I see it's using an XT60 connector and Lipo pack. Could you maybe modify it to run off a generator if you wanted more than 20 pulls? I know about charging stuff and they can regen pretty quick. I was just thinking i have a little 2000W honda and could keep using it continously. How long is the total line length?
@windance
@windance 3 ай бұрын
They run about $5,000. This particular model is designed to run off of a battery and charge between sessions. The rope length is 300 meters.

I'm curious about the optimal dock height off the water. We have a steep platform that's only a few feet long and a couple feet out of the water, depending on the tide. I was thinking about setting up some kind of a floating dock, but the wave action in the afternoons can get pretty brutal and I might need to make more of a swim platform. Any ideas on how to dimension something like that? I can imagine it's not going to be super cheap, but better to be creative than to give up easily. I've also thought of buying a stripped down pontoon boat and anchoring it just offshore. We could also use it to launch for kitesurfing when the wind is good
@windance
@windance 3 ай бұрын
It depends a bit on your mast length - you want the foil plane to be in the water when you hop onto the board and you want the board to be low enough so that you can hop onto it. 2ft sounds like about the right height. I don't have much advice on the swim platform, but for dock starting a foil we're seeing a lot of people ordering the inflatable North Dockstart Launchpad to both protect the foil while launching and allow you to hop onto your pump foil board with a more natural gate. www.windance.com/products/north-dockstart-launch-pad?_pos=2&_sid=c785b3f8c&_ss=r

So the duotone bar doesnt like other kites, but using for example a core bar on a duotone kite is okay?
@yxx_chris_xxy
@yxx_chris_xxy 6 ай бұрын
It's the other way round, as he says. Duotone kites traditionally* need bars with a very high Y, which you only get from Duotone or by getting a distributor thingy and mounting it on other bars to force a high Y. But it's even more annoying. Duotone changes Y height quite frequently, and line attachments and different kite sizes also have an impact, so for your kite to perform optimally, you may have to tune Y height. Or just go with whatever your setup gives you and live with minor suboptimality. * It seems that as of 2024 some of the Duotone kites now want low Ys, though I am not 100% sure about that.

@yxx_chris_xxy ah okay, a friend is selling an older duo kite and I didn't want to buy it if my core bar wouldn't work great with it

@@yxx_chris_xxy in that case, if you use a slingshot bar and buy Duotone V-Distributor III, you can use duotone kites whit slingshot bars. Actually i will try that solutuon and then i will write results.

Yea buy a new bar if it‘s dirty... best to throw the old one directly into the ocean.. like wtf man the only thing that needs to be replaced every few years are the lines the rest is fine. (The North bar you showed is probably perfectly fine)

I paid retail for this board. I can get up foiling in 8 mph with an Infinity 84 front wing and love using to foil. With a regular fin, it will work as a slalom board if the mast track is far enough forward. At $749, it's a steal. Only two downsides: 1. no track, so deep tuttle only. 2. mast track is hard to use as the bolt does not fit through the track. I use a 2-bolt base so I can just drop my base in.

Im looking to get away from wadders for fishing, 1 they can actually become very dangerous is you fall in fast moving water and 2 they just dont last. Ive been looking at wet suits and socks for some time now. I fish north arkansas up to Colorado in the winter. What would be a good suit for staying in water when its 20-40 degree outside. Not fully submerged, in from knees tk waits and somtime have to walk through chest high water.
