What are the requirements to enter a turkey run, just a street plated bike? Does it have to have current state inspection and dot tires? Looks like fun I want to do the hoot owl this year, but, it looks like it'd be way harder if they make you run dot tires!

Street Plated, licensed insured rider. There are city and town streets as part of the loop. Don't fret over DOT compliance, whatever your favorite tire for conditions is, USE IT> No one checks that during tech. It's usually registration, lights, and sometimes a sound check for dB limit. The NETRA Turkey Run events are actually held on the same club maintained private trials that they hold annual Enduro events on, so it is definitely classic NE woods rocks root and MUD (sometimes) riding. The main difference between the Turkey Run and the Enduro is PACE. The Turkey Run is a NON competitive event, their is no time constraint. HOWEVER there can be time LIMITS. A rider does not have "all the time you need" to finish the entire Turkey Run. You can be slow enough that you will be caught by the club sweep riders. This means you are SLOW. No big deal, you finish the section you are on and ride back to the parking area if you get caught by sweeps. Eventually you can get better at rising and finish an event it is a great feeling. I have only finished the Hoot Owl ONCE in 4 attempts. It was a long 4.5 hours. I had to cajole my riding buddy to not give up and keep at it. We were dead last back to the parking area it was a ghost town, everyone was gone. We quit the first two times from rain and fatigue (we were not physically ready for the miles of trails). Another VERY difficult one is the Triple B in Tolland Mass. It has some real hero stuff, can skip most of the hard stuff, but the terrain can be unrelenting. I have only finished it once, ALAONE. I was able to maintain pace with fewer stops and breaks (those can get you caught by sweep riders later. Too many delays. Anyway, the most important thing to remember is RIDE and have fun. If you finish a hard Turkey Run that's awesome, if not that's OK too, you get to ride some amazing NE woods trails for a little money. PS: Pre-emptively take some Tylenol before the ride, and be hydrated for at least a few days before the event. It makes a HUGE difference.

@@ow-my-achilles1106 This has been the most helpful writeup on a turkey run that I've seen anywhere!! Thanks so much- it sounds like a blast! I'm doing Martin's HS this weekend, Blue Slope HS next and then the Hoot Owl on the 28th, and I think I'm looking forward to the Turkey Run the most! Been training almost every weekend all winter long with studs at CATRA, which is a great place to train! Thanks again, hopefully I'll see ya out there!

@@veryberryyogurt3125 There is a 40 mile loop for unregistered bikes this year(2024). There is also an 80 mile loop that requires bike to be registered. I know the 80 also requires a motorcycle license, not sure about the 40 mile loop.

Yeah, WAY more technical of a track than I was expecting. I've never done a Turkey Run before, and from the little I thought I knew, I was expecting a way easier course. It was still a blast, and a HUGE shout out to Hoot Owl for putting this on...they did an awesome job!

One thing that always impressed me about Baggett was his line choice when side by side with his competitor. Once a lap he would do some line that seemed weird but he found a way to gain with it.
