I saw (and recorded) 4 shows on FZ’s final tour in ‘88, 2 at the Wembley Arena, one at the Birmingham NEC and the final one at the Rotterdam Ahoy. Frank only played “Stolen Moments” at the Wembley Arena in 1988! yet every time I listen to them I always expect “Stolen Moments” to come up!

I love all Frank's albums, yes even the Francesco one, and I'm still, after all these years, struggling with this one. Which is not really an album BTW. But here's my point: Even as I never understood this piece to this day, it is still way better music than **anything** played today.

Boy do I have news for you. This country was never a democracy, that’s a lie you’ve been told. We’re a republic, and the difference is bigger than one is less to believe when told we’re a democratic republic. Democracy is 2 wolves and a lamb voting on dinner. Mob rule, majority rules. A republic protects the rights of the minority, the individual, FROM the majority. Just because we use democratic processes to vote on our laws which cannot supersede our rights does NOT make us a democracy, despite every politicians vehemently implying we are one (similarly, they’ll call themselves leaders and not representatives) Fascism is also lied about. The Nazi party wasn’t originally titled that. “Nazi” is a slang contraction for the words “National Socialist” as it was the National Socialist Workers Party of Germany (translated and officially abbreviated to NSDAP) was the party that Hitler took command of. Fascism itself wasn’t invented by Hitler, nor by its first elected dictator Mussolini. But rather by a socialist student of Lenin, Giovani Gentile, who believed he could improve Lenin’s system by organizing a socialist society by class. Of course, the Hitler being a villainous anti-Semite, he placed Jews at the bottom of his classist fascism. In German politics the political spectrum is measured differently than in the U.S. the U.S. spectrum is based on less government vs more government determining right and left respectively. On the U.S. spectrum any form of totalitarianism is on the left. (that is NOT to suggest that too far right doesn’t exist, it does, and it’s result is anarchism due to lack of government on the U.S. spectrum.) A true fascism is a form of socialism. In Germany it was one of 4 major parties at the time. The Social Democrats, the NSDAP, the Communist party, and another that I cannot recall at this time. In the U.S. the primary parallel drawn between the GOP and nazis is their often fanatic patriotism, even going so far as to call it jingoism at certain points. However, smaller government polices cannot result in bigger government control in a holocaust style fascist state. This is why Reagan concluded “if fascism ever comes to America, it will come in the name of liberalism” as the American left pushes the government to grab the power necessary for such a state to exist. That is NOT to accuse the left of being nazis today, truly they parties are both far from it in most aspects. But this is why we should know history, or either side may be doomed to repeat it (right now both parties tend to grow government size. That’s not inherently fascist but it sets up the tools necessary for a fascist to use should she/he take power. Bonus, in today’s world AI has brought about realistic translations of dictator’s speeches including Hitler. I’d recommend listening to some of his speeches and knowing exactly what he stood for, what we should stand against. Hitler was human, and so were we. We should watch out for our own selves, or risk becoming him. Let’s not recklessly accuse people of nazism who aren’t truly guilty of it. Anyway, not supposed to be an attack because of a post, just my two cents on studying I’ve done. You’ve been lied to, and you’re noticing it, but you’re reading the signs in the wrong direction my friend.

So a man who was against formal education, who dropped out of college after a year, who didn't want his children going to college and pulled them out of high school, is talking about how the country wasn't educated enough? Sounds like the ramblings of a pseudo-intellectual who only has the confidence to say this because he was an admired musician and then assumed he must be smart.

No, it’s the ramblings of a man who understood that there are many different ways to become educated.

Of course, Frank Zappa was completely correct. Our republic is not a complete democracy, but one through representatives to express the common will that also safeguards against democracy, in that certain fundamental rights will be held against a tyranny of any fleeting majority. However, this conservative citizen, when examining the context, can appreciate Zappa's stance. By the numbers across many studies (i.e., meta analysis,), there is no correlation between voting (or opinion,,) and the outcome of legislation, which is oft written by the interests involved themselves. I could go on. "Democracy" was a dirty word even amongst our Founders. In pure form, it never worked. We had a mixed form, which has grown to divorsevitself from being represented [almost as if by Ra's press(impressment) sentarives], so it does not operate for we the people. Lincoln said "lest it perish from the earth," and America being "the last best hope" for mankind. If this is based upon what we claimed to be, can we claim that anymore? Avant-garde as he was, Zappa also held quite some substance. Perhaps he and William F. Buckley would have found common ground regarding government. Buckley, who was considered my many as the intellectual father of modern conservatism, once said it would be better to pick names at random out of the phone book for representatives than to proceed down the track we're on. Whethwr by that he was seeking a stronger executive is anyone's guess.
@venum1710 ай бұрын
Buckley was a piece of shit and i have no respect for anyone who seeks to hold back democracy with crap like “we’re a republic 🤡”. Republics fail because they can’t answer to the needs of the people and instead cater to the whims of the powerful.

I believe it vitally important to distinguish between a democracy, a state ruled by it's citizens, and a 'democratic state', where the citizens are allowed to elect those who actually rule that state. With this understanding we can then go on to separate true majority rule, the apparent will of the citizenry, from the oligarchic forms of government posing as democracies, the Few pretending to be the Many. 🤨 #AMoreDirectDemocracy 👍👎👍 Power to the People (for real this time) ✌🙂
