Can’t you just tighten down your spring claw to make the strat basically a hard tail?
@BluesWillisMusic2 күн бұрын
You can and that fixes the bending issue but the sound will still have a little springyness so it won't be a full hard tail.

Yo amazing playing! Whatever you did from 0:19 to 0:30 that was so cool. Reminds me a lot of my favorite guitarist Jerry Garcia. he used to play stuff like that. I never hear many musicians playing in that way, i wonder where you learned that from? I would also like to learn it. Can you teach me? It’s like electric bluegrass it’s so cool.
@BluesWillisMusic21 күн бұрын
Do you mean what I played on the IV chord? It was basically just picking different A chord shapes - an idea that originate's from Elvis's guitarists. But I am available for skpye lessons if you wanna get into this stuff.
@Jakob_Rastafari21 күн бұрын
@@BluesWillisMusic no I was referring to the flat picking . I wanna learn that part. Specifically the part from 0:24 to 0:29 was cool. I’m not sure what it’s called technically in musical terms but I think it’s flat picking right ?

This was nice. I've pretty much mapped out the scales in my head and fingers. Seeing how your approach paralleled mine reinforced that the direction I was taking made sense. I play an Estralita, with similar action to yours.
@BluesWillisMusic21 күн бұрын
Estralitas are cool! Glad to hear you came up with the same shapes, these make sense to me but maybe other find it easy an other way around. The best thing is like you did, sit down and map it out for yourself and of course try different fingerings and shapes.

Gretsch should be better because Gibson ES-335 is not a full hollow body but only semi
@BluesWillisMusicАй бұрын
Depending on what you are looking for in a hollow body. But yes the 335 has the center block and also is way slimmer. So the Gretsch is closer to a regular acoustic.
@don4bluesАй бұрын
Very astute comparison. At 05:30 the Mule sounds less fat with more treble than the National in contradiction to your earlier comment - that the mule has more low-end.
@BluesWillisMusic11 күн бұрын
Maybe it comes out differently but the main difference is in the midrange.

*Here's a fun mod for the Gretsch. You can remove the neck pickup and install phosphor bronze acoustic strings on it.* I have a Washburn OE-40B and did that some years ago. Sounds 100% acoustic but you can still tear into arpeggios and solos like a hollow body. *The work around to the missing neck pickup is installing a piezo disc in it's place.* It's the best all around performer.

Great thanks. But isn’t the Mule a tricone underneath a singlecone cover?
@BluesWillisMusicАй бұрын
I get this question a lot because for a while now Mule only makes tricones but they used to make single cones. I know because I took off the cover plate and checked. If I had known people will bug me with this I would have included a picture in the video :D

Can you post that tab for the opening song you played????
@BluesWillisMusicАй бұрын
That's Swamp Dog Blues by Mike Dowling. You can buy Mike's DVD on Homespun where he teaches it note for note or I think you can get the tab at sheetmusicnow. But the DVD also comes with tabs of course.
@10mey2 ай бұрын
The National sounded way better to my ears. So soundwise, it is a clear winner as far as I am concerned. On the other hand, I'd like to have your opinion on the playability of those guitars. I've heard the Mule is quite remarkable in this regard. Thanks for this great video by the way 🙂
@BluesWillisMusicАй бұрын
The mule has a slightly oval neck that is said to mimic the shape of a human hand better. But I don't really feel that big of a difference, I like the V neck on my National and Waterloo, so it might just come down to preference. The "big thing" about the Mule is the "raw" neck. They use some sort of treatment like oils I guess but there is no lacquer. This is a huge craze nowadays. These two things are behind the playability regard I think. But personally the Mule neck kinda feels like a paper straw. Other love it, I am not so much. And I had a gun oil treated Fender neck as well. I am perfectly happy with the satin national neck. So there is a difference but ultimately more in preference than being better. In my opinion.

How low can you out tye strings on the reso rocket?
@BluesWillisMusic3 ай бұрын
Resonators are acoustic guitars so the same principles apply. They need a medium height action at least to sound good. Of course of if you are playing slide it can benefit maybe a little higher action but does not have to be high. If you have heavy gauge strings on the guitar the action can be medium. I'll measure mine and answer your other comment..

I bought this guitar a few weeks ago and must confirm that the fretwork is terrible. They are really indeed really sharp... my other SX telecaster made in china has a lot better fretwork. It is crazy considering the price... Noventa tele will need to spend some time at luthier

Unfortunately this is more and more the case: you buy a guitar and you have to spend an extra on not just a setup but various luthier work.

@@BluesWillisMusic definitely not a good trend. Fender brand doesn't mean anything anymore? Looks like they need to streamline on quality. I understand that they don't want mexican fenders to be as good as American ones but this is just ridiculously bad compared to what competition offers. Perhaps they should only focus on premium guitars and leave cheap stuff to Squire

Does the center block of the 335 go all the way thru to the endpin or does it end at the tailpiece of the bridge ? Ive been wondering about that for a bit, since connected chambers will also have a small influence on the perceived volume

I dont mind bumping a 4 year old video on a really cool, boutique guitar. Mulecasters really do some weird alchemy to dish out exceptional tone, and thats just clean guitar and amp or just unplugged. They sound nice AF. They also cost three grand + soft tuggy, second hand:) In my opinion, every boutique builder should have a really nice guitar at a thousand bucks to reel in the starving players right at the beginning. Cant knock them for making awesome product, expensive notwithstanding.
