Great price for this bag and so worth it! It still carries my art supplies and after daily use, is still in perfect shape and going strong.

Great ink haul! Thanks for sharing - I have the Platinum Carbon Black and the Platinum Pigment Ink Sepia - both are waterproof (so ideal for ink and wash) - But I REALLY liked your swatch of the Sepia Black! I was wondering if that ink is waterproof as well? I watched your video twice, but I don't think you mentioned it? If you did, I apologize 🙂 Thanks a lot!
@thesketchbookchronicles2 ай бұрын
Thanks! My apologies, I don’t think I did mention it in the video. The Sepia Black isn’t waterproof, but water-resistant. It’ll work great for an ink wash too! I used that ink in my most recent How To Urban Sketch video and used a bit of water to get a slight wash from it as a base before I layered watercolor on top. Check that video out here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iquXd356rsd7bZI. Hope it helps!

I use waterproof ink for the sketch and an ink/water mix in the brush. The problem I had with sketching with soluble ink is it's hard to get a light wash in detailed areas were you've used a lot of ink, the whole thing just smears and gets way darker than intended. Premixing in the water brush gives me more control and I can go back over an area to darken it once it dries.

That’s great! I used a Pentel waterbrush, a Sailor pen with a fude nib, a Hahnemuhle sketchbook, and the ink that came in the Sailor pen.
@HamburgExpress4 ай бұрын
It wouldn't be much of a sketch anymore. But using watercolor paper and wetting both sides of the paper, and really letting the paper soaking up the water. Then making a light and fast pencil sketch. Followed by an ink wash. This method creates pretty smooth blends on the paper without leaving edges. And when it dries you can layer it depending on what you use. Depending on the ink. Ink can usually be layered without reactivating. But the same method is usually used with watercolor and paint. The painting process I have been describing is usually used in productions for Matte painting backgrounds with studios like Ghibli. I personally love painting with colored inks since they can be layered, but the downside is that they can lack the vibrancy that can be better for high contrast landscapes.

See if you can fill the "waterbrush" with isopropyl alcohol instead? It'll effectively act like alcohol markers, except using ink.

Just a thought... You might be interested in Stephen Travers Art (Channel on YT)... He has some excellent tutelage regarding EXACTLY how to put better life in your trees, while also advancing a lot of other techniques from using negative space to define water effects, and the importance of eyeline over vanishing points in drawing perspectives for architecture and street scenes... He DOES have a bit of a passion about drawing directly in pen and ink, and there's an Aussie accent to learn to live with (haha... my own Southern Drawl would drive you batty, too)... BUT there's a wealth of solid foundation demonstrated in that channel, and quite a number of his vid's include a couple minutes at the end of just REAL TIME drawing, so you legitimately see him using calculated hatching and not just "scribbling in"... Nothing against the tree there. It's good... I think (if you don't mind me suggesting it) you're at a point of over working the art. It's a bit of a different place for every artist, but sometimes a little less is actually more. It's particularly true in sketching, even with shaders employed. We sketch to induce a brain to make assumptions of the drawing being more complete than it actually can be... suggesting the details, rather than drawing every detail... ANYWAYS... good job. You are on your own journey. Hope all the best for you... ;o)
