Back in the day, before washes was avilable in hobby stores i used to make my own. (Same time as those GW metallics) So for nuln oil gloss I would use Gloss black paint, gloss acrylic medium, water and a drop of rinse aid for dishwashers (you can use dish soap, bit it will make the wash bubble a bit). The rinse aid or soap is to break the surface tension of the wash to make it flow into recesses easier. You have to experiment a bit with the proportions. Also you can of course make any colour of wash with this technique.

So far I have been using: Borealis Green (big creatures), Celestial Azure (Genestealers), Storm Surge Green (mid size creatures like Warriors), Emerald Getaway (small bugs like Gaunts). I've also been playing around with Nebula Copper for some of the more "parasitic" organisms. Hope that helps

@rowanforsterАй бұрын
No problem, glad you like the effect. I start with the same as the "bright silver" areas, and then give it a wash of Druchii Violiet around the outer edges, then build up Frostheart from the central area outwards. It's mostly just building up that Frostheart in thin layers
@RAINBOWBEARMANАй бұрын
generally i like this. I think the green looks a little strong for me. kinda want a bluish green if that makes sense. I'll see if you have an updated version of this. nuln oil gloss is sadly gone.

You mentioned you used other colours on other models. Which colour shift paints do you use for the rest of the swarm? Also wouldn't mind knowing how you do the glow effects on the brains :)
@rowanforster4 ай бұрын
These are all the colour shifts I have been using so far: Borealis Green (big creatures), Celestial Azure (Genestealers), Storm Surge Green (mid size creatures like Warriors), Emerald Getaway (small bugs like Gaunts). Recently I've been trying our Psychotic Illusions and Nebula Copper for some of the larger brain bugs like the Neurotyrant. For the brain glow this is the main process: start with the same bright silver as the skin, wash with Druchii Violet around edges, then glazes of Frostheart to build up the blue. Hope that is helpful!

What’s your thoughts on VR Leapers v Warriors? I find VRL the better option with their infiltrator, stealth, and fights first ability.
@rowanforster4 ай бұрын
The Leapers are really fun and I think have a role to play, especially tying up other light fast units. But I still like the Warriors as more of the core, especially with the recent changes to Synapse they're a little more capable on their own while having a decent punch. They're nice hanging around some big bugs to give them a boost and have a good counter punch themselves. Units of 3 are still ok as support and objective grabbers, but I also quite like having one bug chunk of 6 as they can still be effective after losing one or two models

There are two possibilities for this fight to have occur on the Nightlord's ship. One, the ship went through a hazardous warp lane and a problem arose with the gellerfield and infected warpsmith and his minions on the lower decks who were working on something down there at the time, or two, Chaos warbands go out of their way to capture warpsmiths and force them to serve them. This must have happened to him and so he saw a chance to turn against his captures and took it.
