Hi Martyn just bought some flies from your site, they arrived today. Excited to give them a try! What's your rod and reel?
@martynwilliams722921 күн бұрын
Hello mate, my rod is a 9'6#7 hardy zenith. It's a lovely stiff fishing rod which I like . The reel is a hardy dd large arbor #7. Line is a #7 rio stillwater elite. Regards Martyn

Excellent Martyn. I had to cancel my September booking. But I’m there again in October. Can’t wait. Testwood is my favourite venue to fish. I know it’s pricey, but everything you catch is over 10lb, and it’s nice to get a PB. Not only that, but you get to fish the Test as well……..Yes, the Test on a C&R, but where else can we (the great unwashed) get to catch Grayling and wild trout. Not only that but Nigel is a great character.

My favorite thing about this fishery is being able to fish the river too...Nice Browns and Grayling in there...The Grayling love some of your tiny flies Martyn.

Great content, do you kill all fish or do you do catch and release also.
@martynwilliams7229Ай бұрын
@darrenwest6173 hello mate, all these venues don't really offer catch and release, just catch and kill. Problem is that if these fish are not handled gently, they would probably die if released.

The fish not fighting does tend to be more of a summer thing …. Usually they fight like Mike Tyson on roids. I feel Avington is on its way to making a comeback after the loss of Dever

so many fish deformed , bulging from fish feed , these fish would eat out of your hand , i would really hate to think that anyone would actually eat any of these considering the toxic feed that makes them bloated and deformed . beautiful place .
@lukevarley1032 ай бұрын
Great video👍 I take fish for a friend of mine as I don’t eat them myself, usually stockies what I take 2-3lb been told that the bigger they get the worst they taste. Just out of interest is there any truth to that l? also been told by a fish farmer that sometimes it’s best to knock a double on the head as they don’t always do too well if you try to release them.
@martynwilliams72292 ай бұрын
Hello luke, I'm not a big fan of fresh trout and I usually pass them on. All my customers say they taste superb because they are fresh and I look after them. I believe catch and release is fine as long as it's done correctly.

With most things I think you get what you pay for. Most of the fish that get caught on most of these waters are quite a bit bigger than most,and that obviously costs quite a bit. Not to mention all the facilities/upkeep and general stocking. As with everything else its going to go up in price. Stunning fish, beautiful clear water and a nice environment to enjoy with mates!

I was very disappointed on my last visit for £130. Place was a building site, Loud music, no cafe, no tackle, toilets were shut. No mention of any of this when we booked. Fish quality was awful! No fight at all. Filleted out 2 of my fish a parts of the flesh were yellow!
@levigsp51512 ай бұрын
Agreed, £130 and hardly any fish and I do mean that,. Pulling nets through the water whilst I was fishing. Final insult being told I should not have booked on their work day! and then the stocked it with Browns and Rainbows in middle of afternoon.. I understand work needs doing, but there is time to do the work and the lakes need serious desilting. traditional stalking areas have less then a foot of water?

130 quid. What was Dever putting it up to that everyone kicked off about? Why is this water better? Genuine question- fished dever a lot, not tried Avignton because it was always more expensive, but this seems to be same ball park as what Dever were taking about?
@barrybigplums2 ай бұрын
Dever was a stalking water but also had the traditional blind fishing with deeper water …. Especially on willow lake. Avington is much more sight fishing oriented…. It’s basically chalk springs with bigger fish (Bigger average). With Dever being shut now and with Lechlade’s posting on Facebook about waiting to see what happens with a planning application to try and get some income during the summer months the future of the specimen trout industry is very uncertain. It’s very expensive you will find no argument from me but in speaking with many fishery owners getting fish to double figures costs them a fortune …. It kinda just costs what it costs and many people are sadly just going to be priced out of the specimen waters now … they are all a business however and need to make some profit if they want to keep going …. There is no easy answer

At least the place is not covered with weeds, and you can make a cast, It costs a lot of money to clean out someone else's pond from May on.

Do you tie the flys you are catching on in this video, and sell them Martin Williams you seem to meet up with a good bunch of people and have a good dinner and a good time. That’s what it’s all about. Keep up the good videos👍😎
