Great video. I just bought a Monst body for my middie Blythe and checked a few videos before yours came up. So much easier than what they showed, no soaking, no cutting. Relieved that I am going to be able to do the body swap easily. Luckily my doll head is already matte finished and quite similar to the body I will be using as I am NOT doing a face up, I do not have the skills for that. Loved everything about this little girl.

I agree, this is actually the first project I've done with such a large chest! You might not know that all Smart dolls come with a fairly small chest as default, there are even smaller chests and even mastectomy busts available to purchase as optional extra parts to swap out, as well as these larger style busts! If you're not familiar with Smart doll I recommend checking them out more, they actually have a tremendous focus on representation, far beyond other doll brands!

I love this video, all the detail you show as you go through the creative process. The tape lines on the cling film is a very cool technique I do wish the smart dolls came with short/typical proportion legs. It’s the only thing that gives me hesitation about getting one. I like Sailor Moon legs for Sailor Moon, but not in general. I feel like there is some joy in designing fashion for long legged super models, since that’s what the whole fashion industry for people is like, but I also love my cute short legs and would want to make a smart doll with my own build. See also: post mastectomy chest! It’s actually quite a challenge for me to style my wardrobe around my flat chest but I like it and I want to expand beyond the Blythe hobby someday if I can decide on a 1/3 doll body and head and style concept I’d like to make. Merida has a special place in my heart! Brave makes me cry every time.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate that! 🥰 Yes it's unfortunate that their early issues with the sofubi vinyl slush casting technique left Smart dolls with such accidentally long legs! I do recall seeing a 'My Lady Disdain' video where they modded a smart doll to have shorter proportions, you should definitely check it out!! These larger dolls are a real joy to design and make for, I really hope you can find a way to enjoy them, and definitely get one of their fantastic mastectomy busts for more self representation! ❤️

@BethRamsden thanks. It would be cool to see a doll like that. I love the legend of Zelda. I even have a princess Zelda themed engagement ring. And I didn't end up going along with it, but I almost ordered a princess Zelda themed wedding dress to and contemplated having my wedding themed around that. But I figured that might be a bit much, lol. I settled for an outdoor, fairy/whimsical themed wedding to kinda favor the game a bit, but not just bam, I'm princess Zelda! Lol. 😅

I always use real 'people' earrings, hehe. The loops can be snipped shorter if needed, and studs can be bent into a hook, or just blu-tacked into place!

Hi! I got one question, can I cut the pattern and sew it without the darts? Or it can affect the final result?

The seams wouldn’t line up any more without the darts unfortunately, plus there wouldn’t be room for the chest. You might get away with it if you used a stretchy fabric for the dress instead, but you would still have to resize some pieces to fit the new shape. Hope that helps! 🪡🧵😄

I don't have a small curling iron sadly, and honestly ran out of time to get as creative with the wig as I'd have liked!! I had planned a fancy up-do for her, but this project was just one of many I'm juggling currently 😅

It hasn't so far, though I chose to use my oldest/already stained smart doll body, so I wouldn't be too sad if it did stain. If in doubt, always use a stain prevention layer underneath! 💪😆

Amazing work, she truly looks stunning! Though personally I don't think it looks much like Merida, more like one of those "Disney-core inspired by" outfits. Which isn't a bad thing, just not Merida herself :P

Oh I agree, she wasn't intended to really look like her, If I wanted to I would've sculpted a custom head like Enchanterium does, to more closely match her face style in the movie ^_^ The concept of the collab was to create more glamorous, met gala styled outfits, not to try to closely replicate the existing princess. We were only using them for inspiration 🤩
