Sega boy here! To me, the Master System is more superior than the NES to do with reliability & a good colour pallet, when the NES suffered with a lot of boot failure & the colour palette looks washed out, however NES & Master System are icons. I have yet to come across an original NES that will boot into games on the first turn on instead of the flashing red power LED & flashing grey & black screens.

@@intellivisiongamerThere's plenty of platformers for TG-16 like the Bonk series, New Adventure Island, Dragon's Curse, Jackie Chan, Legend of Hero Tonma. There's even RPGs for it like the Ys series, Dungeon Explorer series, Exile series, Dragon Slayer, Cosmic Fantasy 2. Tengai Makyo Ziria recently got a very nice fan translation. Japan got WAY more RPGs for PC Engine. The RPG library is definitely up there with SNES. Problem is most aren't translated and not many people outside of Japan know those games exist.

Who would have thought there were/are also gamepads for SNES that let you play fighting games with 6 buttons on the front. If I had only just happened upon the Internet a few years ago and followed the general narrative, I totally could have believed that simply wasn't an option there on SNES uniquely. But, here we are. And, I have to say, I love the look of the Super Famicom version here the most. Just always loved that RYGB button colouring. Lovely find. Good stuff. :)

Given some of the conversations I've had online around these consoles and in regards to playing fighting games like Street Fighter II in particular, I get the impression a whole lot of people didn't know about the SNES one. And they definitely didn't know about the SNES C&L Championship Joystick. Those are definitely some great options for Super Nintendo/Super Famicom fighting game aficionados there. :)

The first platformer demo is doing the front layer entirely with sprites, which is very cool. There's some black bordering that helps things, so the actual resolution looks like it's maybe 240x208 or thereabouts. The HUD at the bottom helps too by reducing the max amount of in-game screen area that might need to be covered with sprites like this. Overall, a nice trick to fake an extra background and overcome the PC Engine's limitation there. This is actually something you could do on both SNES and Genesis as well, but it was just as rare to see on those systems. I have seen one SNES Mode 7 demo where someone did use sprites to fake a similar foreground platformer layer on top of a scaling waterfall background. And there's that one real SNES game from back in the day, On The Ball, that uses Mode 0 for all the rotating mazes, so the backgrounds had to be done entirely with a combination of sprites and colour gradients and such. It's a pretty neat effect. Those high-colour high-res images look really nice too. But, I notice there seems to be some rapid flickering. Does that mean they're actually changing slightly every frame to fake a sort of blending and make it look like there's more colours than there technically actually is in each individual image frame? And, I can't quite tell, but are the pixels double width/height or something like that too, possibly something required to achieve the effect (they're a bit too grainy and filtered in the KZbin video footage to properly see the pixels clearly)? I think a similar trick was demoed and/or at least suggested once by the guy that runs the Game Hut KZbin channel for a way to allow the Genesis to apparently get up to I think 4096 colours on-screen (although I think it was actually 512 without the flickering) with double-wide pixels and a little artifacting. No one's tried the same on SNES that I'm aware of, but you can already show gorgeous non-flickering normal-pixel-width images just with the standard 15-bit-colour 8bpp modes, so that's fine. All in all, a couple of very impressive demos of some nice tricks and effects there to really squeeze a bit more out of the classic little PC Engine console. Lovely stuff.

To me I think CRT Mattias is the best version of a CRT TV. It's also helpful if you wanna save Internet data. How??? Watch KZbin in 240p and run CRT Mattias. 😅 Hey, it works and it's perfectly viewable. I highly suggest ShaderGlass application.
