Can I set a range to how much I want to analyze i.e say I want to analyze the soil at a depth of 1 meter...can I do that? what are the limitations of such analysis

Using X-ray fluorescence (XRF), the information depth of a soil sample is on the upper nanometer to few millimeter scale. This means that we can only get an information about the chemical composition on the sample´s surface. Consequently, using XRF on soils, we cannot get information about the chemical composition at more than ~5 mm depth. To get information about the soil at 1 m depth, you would need to dig a hole and place the handheld XRF directly in contact to the soil in the hole. How long did you homogeneze the sample? How many rpms did you use?

Typically, we homogenize at max. speed of the shaker and just about 30s to 1 min. If this is not sufficient we apply an ultrasonic bath for 5-10 min (e.g. sticky samples like food)

My dream, I'm a Researcher and I worked for 16 years with a Scanning Electron Microscope, with EDS, WDS, BSE and VPSE, the analysis platform was unfortunately not from Bruker.
