Really enjoyed seeing this delightful film. Such a romantic time to be sailing a small boat across oceans. I wonder if your parents had any idea how historically important their footage would become? Thank you for sharing this.

They saw the best of many things. An inboard engine would have taken too much space in small boat?

Thank you for this excellent production. I owned Vertue 119 - Chinita for twenty years. Only last year, due to health problems. I gave her away to a young shipwright whom I trust as her next custodian. Along with just about every word written about Vertues, your father’s book has graced the saloon bookshelf for many years!

Wonderful film! That's how I learned sailing; in the early 60's although we had a "very big engine" (5hp) we barely used… This film should be watched by all the would be sailors who ask us for money through patreon to finance their expensive voyages at sea while relying only to electronics… some of them end up as excellent sailors, too many of them just hop from one overcrowded reorts to tourists spots having learned nothing bu to focus even more to their tasteless life "at sea". Thank you so much for posting.

What incredible talented people your parents were. To conceive of such a venture and to actually put it into practice at a time following the deprivations of the Second World War is an amazing achievement in its self. Without any of the comforts of modern clothing, an engine, gps and any of the navigational aides now currently available adds to their accomplishment. Almost everyday we hear of young adventurers seeking sponsorship via YT to fund their life’s ambition, equipped with every conceivable gadget, all credit to them, but the Hamilton’s did it quietly and alone. I’m absolutely sure that Jock, Katherine and Gail have inherited many of the qualities from their parents and hope that in turn their children, also will benefit also from their pioneering and self reliant grand parents. They should all rightfully be proud of their family’s proven self reliance.

An incredible documentory, No engine, no radio. These two things would be unthinkable these days. The red sail would have been a good signal for the Hathaways to recognise the Salmo coming into port. Your parents are two fantastic courageous explorers/travellers.

A good friend of mine owned this boat in the 80s and restored it. We were slip neighbors first in Newport Beach and then at Mission Bay in San Diego. He was monumental in convincing me to go cruising in my 24-foot Yankee Dolphin.

Before all the young modern yachties query why is she painting unlabeled tin cans. No cardboard boxes on a yacht, they are cockroach cities! Tin labels get wet and then you don't know what the contents are. Tins also rust, hence paint the contents on the tin. Then clear varnish. (From an elderly experienced yachtie)⛵⚓
