Can i use sw snowbound , bm simply white or bm chantily lace for my wall color? I have true white kitchen cabinets, light oak floors, and off-white quartz (with a blueish hue)? Which of the three would work best? I have small windows wirh moderate light . I truely appreciate your opinion
@Kbfdesigngallery3 күн бұрын
Hi @susiem9485 - thanks for watching! Here are our thoughts on each shade and our recommendation, based on your description of your kitchen: Key Considerations: True White Cabinets: Your wall paint should complement but not clash with the crispness of your cabinets. Light Oak Floors: The warm undertone of the oak pairs well with slightly warmer whites but can also balance cooler tones if done subtly. Off-White Quartz with Blue Hue: This introduces a cooler tone, meaning a paint color that leans too warm might clash. Moderate Light with Small Windows: This means the walls need to bounce as much light as possible without appearing stark or overly yellow. Paint Analysis Sherwin Williams Snowbound: Tone: A soft white with subtle gray undertones, making it a cool-leaning neutral white. Effect: It complements the bluish hue in your quartz and works well in spaces with moderate light, as it doesn’t appear overly stark or washed out. Compatibility: This would work well to harmonize with the quartz while balancing the true white cabinets and light oak floors. Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace: Tone: A true, clean white with barely perceptible cool undertones. Effect: It is very bright and crisp, making it closer to your true white cabinets but could feel stark in a room with moderate light. Compatibility: Best suited if you want a seamless match to your cabinets and a very crisp look. However, it might not provide enough contrast or warmth to complement your oak floors. Benjamin Moore Simply White: Tone: A soft white with a hint of warmth (yellow undertone). Effect: It brings a cozy, inviting feel but might lean too warm against the bluish hue of your quartz. Compatibility: This works best in spaces with natural light and wood tones but may not complement the cool undertones of the quartz or tie in well with true white cabinets. Our recommendation: Sherwin Williams Snowbound. Its soft gray undertone balances the cool and warm elements in your space while providing a neutral backdrop. It enhances the quartz and doesn’t compete with the cabinets or floors. Runner-Up: Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace if you prefer a brighter and crisper aesthetic, though it may lack warmth against the oak. We hope this helps!

What’s the difference between leathered and honed finish
@Kbfdesigngallery3 күн бұрын
@dasikakn Thanks for watching and for your question! We love both leathered and honed finishes on natural stone, and we choose between them based on the aesthetic that we're going for in our clients' homes. Both provide distinct textures, appearances, and levels of maintenance. Here's a breakdown of their differences: Honed Finish Appearance: A honed finish is smooth and matte, with little to no shine. The surface is flat and has a softer, more natural look. Texture: Feels smooth to the touch but lacks the glossiness of polished stone. Color: Slightly muted or lighter compared to a polished or leathered finish because it reflects less light. Durability: Resistant to scratches but more prone to staining, as the pores are more open. Maintenance: Requires regular sealing to protect against stains and moisture penetration. Use Case: Ideal for spaces where a subtle, understated elegance is desired, such as modern or minimalist kitchens and bathrooms. Leathered Finish Appearance: A leathered finish is soft, textured, and slightly glossy but less reflective than a polished finish. It enhances the natural patterns and depth of the stone. Texture: Slightly rough or pebbly, providing a tactile feel. Color: Richer and deeper than a honed finish, as the texture accentuates the stone's natural colors and veining. Durability: Resists scratches and fingerprints well, making it a practical choice for high-use areas. Maintenance: Requires occasional sealing but is less prone to showing stains or smudges due to its texture. Use Case: Works well for creating a warm, sophisticated, and tactile environment, especially in rustic, industrial, or transitional designs. We hope this helps!

What to use to clean it
@Kbfdesigngallery3 ай бұрын
Hello! We recommend sweeping wood floors regularly and mopping with a microfiber mop using warm water (damp mop - you don't want to leave standing water on wood). If you want to use a cleanser when mopping wood floors, make sure it is formulated for wood floors - never use vinegar or ammonia based cleaners on hardwood. Instructions to clean tile are generally the same - make sure to sweep regularly to avoid dirt buildup, and clean using warm water and a gentle, soap-free cleanser. You can also use a mild detergent that's formulated to break down dirt without damaging your tile floors.

I don't understand why most architects don't understand the importance of natural light. I've lived in two houses now where thr kitchen, arguably one of the most import rooms in the house, was in the center of it, mwaning they got basically no natural light.

I would buy a piece of property and have it moved, but it would have to be redone all over again, it’s 50 years old. @Kbfdesigngallery6 ай бұрын
Hello and thanks for watching - we appreciate the compliment and your input! This design leans more towards maximalism in the use or textures, colors, and patterns. So perhaps it's not at the far end of the maximalist spectrum, but it's a step toward it from the neutrals that have dominated design for so long.

Hi, do you advise on marble look tiles or wood look tiles interms of overall better looking luxurious? I’m torn between marble look and wood look! Thanks
@Kbfdesigngallery6 ай бұрын
Hi and thanks for watching our video! Choosing between marble-look and wood-look tiles for a luxurious aesthetic can depend on several factors, including personal preference, the style of your space, and the overall ambiance you wish to create. Here are some considerations for both options: Marble-look tiles: Luxurious Appearance: Marble has long been associated with luxury and elegance. Its natural veining and polished surface can create a high-end look in any space. Timelessness: Marble has a timeless appeal that can withstand changing design trends. It exudes a sense of sophistication and refinement. Versatility: Marble-look tiles come in a variety of colors and patterns, allowing you to choose the perfect option to complement your decor. Wood-look tiles: Warmth and Comfort: Wood-look tiles can add warmth and comfort to a space, making it feel cozy and inviting. They can mimic the look of hardwood flooring without the maintenance concerns. Durability: Unlike natural wood, wood-look tiles are resistant to moisture, scratches, and wear, making them suitable for high-traffic areas such as kitchens and bathrooms. Variety: Wood-look tiles come in a wide range of colors, finishes, and textures, allowing you to achieve the look of various wood species. Ultimately, the choice between marble-look and wood-look tiles depends on your personal taste and the style you want to achieve in your space. If you prefer a classic, luxurious look with a touch of sophistication, marble-look tiles might be the better option. However, if you want a warm, inviting atmosphere with the durability and ease of maintenance of tiles, wood-look tiles could be the ideal choice. Consider your preferences, the overall design of your space, and practical factors such as maintenance when making your decision. We hope this helps!

Don't tiles also make your home colder temperature wise?
@Kbfdesigngallery7 ай бұрын
Hello! Tile doesn't possesss heating or cooling capabilities, but they tile is a much better conductor of heat than wood. When you step on a tile floor, the tile has the ability to conduct the heat from your foot, making the floor feel cold. If you love the look and durability of tile but are live in a cooler climate and are concerned about it being too cold, heated tile floors might be an option worth exploring. We hope this helps!

Will wood be ok over radiant heated concrete floors?
@Kbfdesigngallery8 ай бұрын
Hello! Solid hardwood floors can be used over radiant heat systems, but you want to be thoughtful in the type of wood flooring and the adherent that you use. Some manufacturers make hardwood flooring specifically for radiant heat systems. When using anything wider than 4″ planks, consider extra acclimation and use a hardwood floor glue that is recommended by the wood floor manufacturer. If you'd rather not have to make these extra considerations, porcelain tile is an ideal choice for use with radiant floor heating systems. Tile conducts heat well and is thin, so it's very easy to heat. We hope this helps!

I am in the kitchen a lot, on my feet doing baking projects. What about the comfort differences between the tile and wood?
@Kbfdesigngallery9 ай бұрын
Hi Deanne - thanks for watching! Wood flooring is a softer surface than tile, so it is usually considered the more comfortable choice over tile or stone. The "softest" type of flooring that would be the most comfortable under foot is vinyl flooring. We have a video that compares real wood flooring to luxury vinyl "wood-look" flooring that might contain some useful information for you: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2SZhaOAnLR9aMksi=yzVTeujwVMdV7lqO. What about choosing between vinyl and porcelain? Which one is better? In the children's room for example
@Kbfdesigngallery10 ай бұрын
Great question! The choice between luxury vinyl flooring (LVT) and porcelain tile for a child's bedroom depends on various factors, and both options have their advantages. Durability: LVT (Luxury Vinyl Flooring): LVT is highly durable, resistant to scratches and dents, making it ideal for withstanding the daily activities of a child's room. Its water-resistant nature also adds an extra layer of protection against spills and accidents. Porcelain Tile: Porcelain tile is renowned for its exceptional durability and resistance to wear and tear. It's impervious to water, making it an excellent choice for moisture-prone areas. This feature can be beneficial in case of spills or accidents. Comfort and Sound: LVT (Luxury Vinyl Flooring): Luxury vinyl flooring tends to be softer underfoot, providing a comfortable surface for kids to play on. It also offers some insulation against noise, which is great for creating a quieter environment. Porcelain Tile: While porcelain tile is durable, it can be cold to the touch, especially in colder climates. To enhance comfort, you might want to consider using area rugs to provide a softer surface for playtime. Considering the needs of a child's bedroom, both flooring types have their merits. If durability and water resistance are top priorities, both LVT and porcelain tile are excellent choices. However, if a softer and warmer feel is preferred, LVT might be more comfortable for play areas. Ultimately, your decision may come down to personal preferences and the specific requirements of your child's room. I hope this information helps you make an informed decision for your child's bedroom flooring!

@@Kbfdesigngallery Thank you for your answer! Will LVT hold up to student chair wheel scratches? And a glass of water that occasionally spills on the floor?
@Kbfdesigngallery10 ай бұрын
@@jdhpemhtrz LVT can definitely handle those occasional spills! As far as rolling chairs go, LVT can most likely stand up to wheels that are in good shape, but we always advise the use of a chair mat underneath (for all flooring), just avoid any type of damage the wheels can inflict.

With luxury vinyl flooring you ,it's durable up to a certain point, you have to watch what u drag on the vinyl flooring it will scratch, we had some furniture with sharp object digging into the floor and leaving scratches, sometimes the vinyl where it snaps together separates or lifts up I seen it do this various places I been too seeing vinyl planks. I wish I went with porcelain.....
@Kbfdesigngallery6 ай бұрын
@@hwnboi11 It's true that vinyl can scratch. For light scratching, you can try to repair the scratched planks by using a mixture of baking soda and water to gently buff away the scratches. But deeper gouges are possible and most likely irreparable. The quality of the vinyl also is a factor in how easily it scratches. Your lifting issue may be due to improper installation or the adhesive failing. You may be able to repair that.

We are building a two-story new home, all the bedrooms are on the second floor. Is it a good idea to use wood -look tile in the first floor where kitchen/living room are, and use real-wood on the second floor?
@Kbfdesigngallery10 ай бұрын
Hi Julianne! I would suggest using the same floor throughout. However, if you are going to mix, make sure the wood tile has the thinnest grout joint as possible so the grout matches the tile. I would also suggest that the wood tile and real wood are different shades, so it doesn’t look like you tried to match and it didn’t work. Good luck designing! :)

How feasable is it to replace a standard bathtub with an curbless shower? We are retiring and want to make our 1925 condo as assessible as possible. The bathroom is very small, but it is on the ground floor with full basement access underneath. Thanks, enjoying your videos!
@Kbfdesigngallery Жыл бұрын
Thank you - we're so glad you found us! You can definitely remove a standard bathtub and add a curbless shower. For a project like that, most of the cost comes from waterproofing the new shower area, moving the drain if needed, and the shower enclosure. It's a very common request in bathroom remodeling to remove the bathtub and replace it with a shower, and it's a really sensible choice if you're interesting in aging in place in your home. You may also want to consider adding a blocking in the wall with grab bars for future use, if needed. And a niche in that wall would be a pretty design feature. We hope this helps!

A south west facing bedroom, one window both rooms have Shaw, desert light carpet (neutral color) its been very difficult to find a video for north west and south west rooms. Thanks in advanced for your help!
@Kbfdesigngallery Жыл бұрын
Hi @nikkimania! A northwest facing bedroom gets at least partial afternoon sun, so keeping the paint color light and bright is important. We suggest Sherwin Williams Pure White or Simply White, as these do not have any undertones. Alabaster is also a nice choice for a little more warmth/a slight off-white look. Snowbound may be too stark/cool in a northwest facing room. Southwest facing rooms get less light. If you want to keep it feeling light and bright, I would stick with the same suggestions as above - Pure White or Simply White. Alabaster would provide a cozier, warmer feel in a southwest facing room. We hope this helps!
