This will work for Portable Generator..... only need portable a/c to help cool Down during Summer 👍👍

It appears to be well made. Westinghouse recommends a 5 hour break in period at 50% load. The included picture was taken during this break in period. I tested it with gas and then propane, and it ran well. I haven't yet tested it under full load, but will update this review if problems are encountered.

I have had this unit for almost a year now◈◈>share4.photo/F3kGenerator?ν I use it to power my toyhauler RV when I'm out in the back country. I purchased this to replace a beast of a Champion unit that was just too loud. I can also lift this into my truck, but the Champion required 2 people. This Firman unit is absolutely awesome. It powers my RV including the Air Conditioning with ease, and it is super quiet! I honestly can't get over how quiet it is.unning air this unit has powered 2 full size RVs at the same time. It also has a battery charger kit that I used when my car battery died. I bought it at Costco so I am protected by Firman and Costco so I know I will get years of service out of this unit. Easy to start, easy on gas and more than enough for the job! 5 Stars! The best part is the price was literally 1/3 of the cost of a similar Honda so my camping buddies now hang their head in shame.

The only improvements would be possibly some absorbing foam inside intake and exhaust baffle sections. Bitumen tape/flashing/deadener only adds mass to panels. You could also consider a diffuser or cowl to direct sound down over the exhaust pipe exit but not sure how effective that may be. Otherwise a clearly effective design and far better than a lot of the poorly thought out boxes on KZbin. With the intake fan blowing straight over the generator, it probably runs cooler than open air too.

I appreciate your kind words. However, the are two reasons that I have no interest in building more of these boxes. 1. Time, building this was a very time consuming project. My career requires me to already work a lot of overtime and I have 9 and 7 year old boys in sports that I help coach. 2. Weight, unfortunately my design weighs nearly 200 lbs. This makes it extremely expensive to ship to anyone not local to me. It probably could be effectively built with lighter/better materials, but again more cost and time would be needed. By the time someone paid the cost of materials, my time, shipping, and the generator itself, they would be better off getting a Honda or Yamaha without a box. I only shared the video of my design to help others who want to try to build their own.

Jesse Klaus It's just the inner metal shielding from liqui-tite flexible conduit. I removed the rubber insulation and used that.

Nice box. I was thinking of building a box with similar channels but not necessarily in line with the exhaust. Another thing is I plan to leave the bottom open and direct some of the noise in to the ground. Saw another guy just lay plywood angled towards the ground and it seemed to work well.

Great enclosure design, if you are building a baffle enclosure this is absolutely the best video to reference. Only thing I would add is a thermometer system, so you can check on actual run temperatures easily during an outage. A basic wireless "weather station" or wireless outdoor thermometer would probably be cheap, and work well enough depending on how far away your genset is

I think that if a rough / tiled surface were applied at the opposite end of the ducts, an additional noise reduction would ensue. I also think that the mass of the materials in the box plays a role in the noise dampening. I would also experiment with resonance frequencies too. Let's say that we have a resonance frequency measured. Then we added a box with the same resonance frequency as the measured space. That would result in a noise cancellation. I checked it out and it is called a Helmholtz resonator.

Hello. What would you charge to build me this for my honda eu 2000I Inverter generator?
@OGxBUCCWEET7 жыл бұрын
*Best one I've seen so far on KZbin.* Nobody else seems to understand the theory of channeling and chambering the air intake/exhaust ports. Sound waves likes to travel in a straight line. Once you disrupt that straight line, you create a ricochet effect with the sound waves. And with the sound dampening material you have in there, it just absorbs the trapped sound waves. For the purposes we're looking for, you have a significant decrease in decibels using this method. I learned this building speaker boxes back in the day and you used a VERY similar concept. The box design by itself is excellent work, and the temperature switch made it fucking genius! Slap a couple of coats of deck sealer on it for wet weather and some wheels and you're really in the game. I wish you had the plans drawn up. And by the way if anybody is planning to build this, the best wood should be as non-resonant as possible. Generally, that means either dense plywood (birch ply is good) or MDF fiberboard. 1" thick. You can't lose!
@francishwang56326 жыл бұрын
I'm making one as well with a large byzantine path for the air, and a minor correction to your comment is that these baffle boxes should have two kinds of materials, sound-absorbing and sound-damping. You hear both used interchangeably, but "damping" materials are less to do with noise and more to do with vibration. By combining the two, you can cut down the pressure wave. The OP should try combining both along his air channels and should notice an even further quieting of the system.

@22980Ryno8 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry, but I don't have any plans. I built the box before I purchased the generator and figured out what the inner dimensions were going to need to be based on the posted dimensions of the generators that I was considering. I kinda just winged it from there. Thanks for the complements though and good luck.

what is the electric looking box close to the exaust area?
@22980Ryno8 жыл бұрын
That is a Sola industrial power supply. It converts 120V from the generator into 24V. I have the fans wired in series so the voltage divides into 12V for each fan. These can be found used on eBay, search for (Sola SDN 10-24-100P). The 10 in the model number means 10 amps. You will need one rated at at least 10 amps to handle the start up of 2 fans that size.
@OGxBUCCWEET7 жыл бұрын
Hey 22980Ryno, Great build by the way. Just curious of the need to run the fans on a power supply in a series vs parallel. The 12v outlet couldn't run them in a 12v parallel configuration? Is it a breaker or amperage issue? I'm only asking because I'm considering this build and I want it as simple as possible without compromising performance.
@22980Ryno7 жыл бұрын
OGxBUCCWEET I wanted to power the fans through the 12V receptacle on the generator, but my research indicated that Champion really only intended it to be used as a battery charger. I didn't want to risk damaging the generator and I really doubt the output would be enough to handle the in rush current of those fans at startup. I would have preferred the simplicity as well, but I decided to use the right tool for the job. Good question though.
@batvette7 жыл бұрын
OGxBUCCWEET dont know about your genny or his champion but my harbor freight predator 2000 says you cant tap the (12v, 8amp)DC output at the same time as the AC output. unless you need every bit of the AC power for something else you can find plenty of ways to run fans. like use 110vac fans... 12v fans thru ac-dc power supplies...myself I would lean toward blowers over fans as they are better at making pressure thus evacuating a closed space. I have made enclosures similar to this for shopvacs and electric air compressors. they didnt have the tremendous heat buildup of an IC engine though. currently dicking around with running that predator 2000 inside the back of a jap suv (honda passport) for stealth camping. it does work with the exhaust piped out the floor and a fan and a blower. it needs a little refinement.
@OGxBUCCWEET7 жыл бұрын
Chris Phillips Ok... that makes more sense. Didn't know that you were only limited to using 1 power source at a time. I run a DuroMax Side Kick XP2000is. Works on the same principal as the other inverter generators out there. Definitely appreciate the reply.
