Wow. I just had a full circle moment... I used to listen to this all. the. time. when it first came out 12 years ago. I had just moved to New York, a city I had never been to before- 24 years old, with 2 bags, $2000 to my name, traveled here on a Greyhound, I only knew 2 people in the city, and I wanted to sing. It was wonderful. I went from being a runaway trying to get away from all the trauma she grew up around and create her own life to singing at MoMa (and a few other museums), getting two degrees from NYU (graduated at the top of my class), dating wildly, riding my bike to the beach on the full moon when I lived in Brooklyn, and ultimately finding a true home in Harlem... Now here we are, 12 years later- and I just bought a house in my home state with my partner who is also from my home state (I NEVER thought that I'd be this much connected to where I'm from again, lol), and I'm preparing to leave NY. And I haven't heard this song in YEARS, and here it is just being recommended to me on my KZbin homepage. It feels like a send off, a reminder 🥹 ... P.s. I'm still keeping my NYC apartment, tho 😜 lol. I can never truly say goodbye to this place 🥹
