I wouldn’t say it makes it redundant hence the use of the approach by countless coaches and successful bodybuilders, the burden on lower back and core is a huge difference, the machine grips also offer a different elbow path with prioritises different areas of the back (like my grip was neutral-ish on the machine and an overhand grip on the barbell,dictates elbow path/position from the body, so no the same exact areas aren’t prioritised in the back.) hope that helps
