You are keeeping my 9.9 alive. But I have a question about that thin rod that comes out from under the pull start. Mine came lose and came out completely on my last carb rebuild and I cannot figure out what it is supposed to attach to up under the pull start. And what is the purpose of that rod?

I have an old 30deo. Wondering how it could hold any pressure when it has a breather tube. When i dropped lu there was no tube not even a tail just a threaded hole blocked solid with salt. I have cleared it & fiited the tube. I was thinking with no breather when air in box got hot it was pushing shift rod seal up

I followed these instructions and found my float had gas in it so I changed it. The motor starts hard and slow and dies several times and I feel the RPM Is too low 1987 25 HP mercury

luv your vids man. Now I have the winter to put them into action. I have a 1997 merc 6hp 2 stroke that was fine but now the fuel bulb won't get hard and I hear air coming from somewhere around the fuel pump when I squeeze the bulb. Any ideas?

What do you if the metal water pump tube comes off with the lower unit?

How about the washer on the top of the gear slector shaft?

glad I found you I have a 1986 25hp 2stroke outboard, it been stored for 20 odd years and I used it this summer for the first time since and got it running pretty good, its virtually new and runs full power no problem, Ive tinkered with it as far as trying to adjust the carb but been reluctant to pull it out and clean it, as I feel it will start first time and not die here and there after a good cleaning, I also self installed electric starter and works perfect instead of pulling the cord, other fishermen have suggested I just buy a new yamaha motor to solve all problems, but as I said its basically new , just wanted to questionif the same directions apply to the 25hp motor thank you so much regards Bill

@14:08 - You reference a little BB that gets dropped back into the hole on that primer. What symptoms would be present if the BB were not there? I disassembled the carb to troubleshoot a flooding issue. There was no BB under the spring. It's not the first time the carb has been opened, so I'm wondering if the missing BB is causing the problem.

Thanks Daniel 😮 I'm way past that stage now my problem now is that I cant seem to get it into forward gear correctly. I've removed the lower unit again because I thought the flywheel was preventing me from getting into forward but now that I have it apart again it's still the same , I cant even remember now which way the end of the shift rod was facing when I took it apart or does this only face the same way as in the video

Ok so I've managed to get it to fit back together but now it looks like I've got a bigger problem , when I put it into forward gear the prop still turns and clicks too , reverse seems ok as the prop wont turn and neutral seems ok too😅

So after watching your video i went at my own and after an hour the job would have been done, but after another hour or 2 I still cant get the shaft to pop into place . Ive turned the flywheel by hand but still no joy .What am I doing wrong

Missing the check ball in the primer for the carb and want a cheap replacement? The detent ball in a 1/4 drive socket extension fits and works. I used a cheap extension from an impact extension (1/4 hex to 1/4 square drive) and carefully cut the ball out.

I did exactly what you did and it's not spraying barely? Any suggestions? My 9.9 1995 mercury could it be thermostat? I noticed alot of slop from pickup tube from pump to copper uplift water tube ? It also smokes alot I just bought it used ? Compression is cylinder 1 96 psi and cylinder 2 is 100 psi ? Is this typical normal for this year? The guy told me this motor set for 10 years? Thanks !

Because the fuel and air passages in the carb body turn and redirect in directions you dont realise they can and often do project a stream of eye burning carb spray "right back into your face" its a good idera to wear chemical protection safety glasses whenever you use carb spray to clean a carb body.

I am trying to insert the shaft back up to the hole into the top of the motor. It stops at 3 inches and will not go any further. I’ve even taken a dowel rod measured it put the rod up there so I can move it around in a circle I feel no hole or the shaft to go into and when I turn the flywheel, I can feel nothing, touching the rod what do I do here?

I have a question...it appears some of these small outboards have an adjuster at the throttle cam and some don't. Mine doesn't have the adjuster and any microfiche I can access on line doesn't show it as a part...what gives? Thx again.

Trying to rebuild my buddy’s carb on his new to him 2003 25 Merc. Can’t seem to find a kit. Why would they discontinue it?

Great video. I ran in to an issue.... After reassembling my fuel pump body is cracked and leaks. I suspect I over tightened it or maybe it is just too old and is falling apart. I have to order a new fuel pump kit now. Hopefully that gets me back on the water.

I’ll have to try it tomorrow but this may of just solved my problem were my motor won’t start unless I take the cover off and give it some throttle by hand but maybe if I tighten that screw in the throttle it’ll start on its own now?

Can you prime also by putting gas into the filter hole before you put filter back in.

This was a really helpful video and I was able to rebuild easily. However the little gasket shown at 6:15 in the video with the channel cut out. Should fuel come out of this when priming the engine with the fuel bulb? or have I missed something, Any help appreciated.

i use an air compressor with an air nozzle with a cone rubber tip. plug one drain plug and send air through one. Press and release the air nozzle just slightly, but keep pressure on it for several seconds or minutes. The moment you pull the air nozzle away, there should be a rush of air coming out of the drain hole. If there is a leak somewhere, you won't get a rush of air coming out. i air check transmission drums the same way.
