Hey Leo, I enjoy watching your videos. Great content to learn how to fish with your content. I have a question that’s been nagging me and I hope you can answer. I went fishing to the jetties you fish. People were catching small about a pound in weight slender fish and keeping them. They were using live shrimp and fish bites. I asked and one guy said they’re great tasting fish. I caught one similar and I offered it to them and I was told it was a trash fish used for cut bait so I threw it back in the water. Without any further information and my ignorance for not asking them what fish they were, can you take a guess and tell tell me what those two fish are called? The good tasting no limit keepers and the trash cut bait long slender fish I caught? By the way I stopped at the same bait shop you go to. They set me up with shrimp and mullet. Thru your videos I learned what to ask for. My first time at the jetties, I head out and managed to catch 2 fish. Thanks for sharing your videos !

Thanks for watching and reaching out! Yes I believe what you might have been catching was mangrove snapper or whiting . Usually around this time of the year they usually tend to bite. Mangrove snappers are small reddish looking fish But they are really tasty. Usually around this time of the year you will find speckled trout, red fish, Spanish mackerel, mangrove snappers, whiting and a few other year round fish that ppl usually catch like flounder etc. your best best right now is using live shrimp with a popping cork or with a single drop rig with a light weight so you don't get stuck as much. Usually that works for me. Pirates landing pier has also been good for trout at night.

Isla Blanca Park by the events center. So as you go in and follow the road eventually it will make a left turn but instead of making a left you go straight which leads you to the events center and the boat ramp. The trail starts over by the boat ramp.

Hey Leo can it be to ruff to fish in the surf sometimes? I went fishing with cut mullet an didn't catch anything an the surf was pretty tuff and it was over cast
@fishingwithleo3 ай бұрын
Yea the surf can be pretty rough sometimes. You wanna try going on days with winds under 16 mph or so. Once it's like 20 mph it can be more challenging to cast a net or line. Usually I'll just take cut bait or fish bites and I'll just wait with the cast net untill a school swims by. But even then you want to look for calmer areas to cast in or just wait for a day where it ain't too bad. Also be sure to check the tides. Usually I go during the transition of tides from low to high. So if u go then, maybe it won't be as rough and you might be able to get more bait. Hope it helps

@fishingwithleo3 ай бұрын
They are. They're great rods just that my brother snapped the tip taking it out of the jeep. It lasted me a long time but they aren't like ugly sticks. But they still last a long time if you take care of them
@ramgabe10273 ай бұрын
@@fishingwithleo That’s what I normally use also . Can’t go wrong with the uglies. I don’t even take care of it and it’s still going strong. I usually just throw them in the back of the truck and go. Your vote is ugly sticky?
@fishingwithleo3 ай бұрын
@@ramgabe1027 Yea durability wise ugly sticks are good. But for performance I'd chose a battle born any day. They're super light and You can cast for days without getting tired. But for the price ugly sticks you just can't beat em.
