I am constantly trapping and using my drop trap. This has made my life easier, and most of all, not such a stressful transfer for the cat. Thanks Tomahawk !

We have been using our drop trap as a big box trap- with a remote made from a car actuator and it’s been a game changer. You don’t prop the trap up- only the door. So no more big scary dangerous trap slamming down. Just the door dropping. So much better. Thanks for the video. I knew there was a way to fold it up but just couldn’t figure it out!

I have a huge colony of community cats. I’ve gotten most S/N but there are some stubborn ones. I need a trap where you can transfer them from a drop trap to a regular trap as our shelter won’t take them to S/N unless they’re in a regular single cat trap.
@emilythechefАй бұрын
Pretty sure all drop traps have a transfer door so you can get them into a regular trap to take to the shelter. Thanks for getting all those kitties taken care of!

The XL one door Havahart Trap I just bought from someone, we had to bend the top side wire with pliers to get the pan to sit up enough to be triggered… now it works, but it was somehow damaged. I think that top part might need replacing as well as the clamp that folds it loosely at the top of the cage. We shall see if it works for trapping a pesky woodchuck/Groundhog tonight!

Thanks! That's better than my solution of adjusting the two bars in front with a ziptie, lol. The ziptie pinches them together just enough to adjust the locking tabs to the correct position.

You MUST clip the sliding door on the drop trap with the clips otherwise a tom cat can bust out of the sliding door. I’ve trapped over 250 cats and have had it happen once, never again. Also, make sure the surface is completely flat, no tree roots! Cover drop trap with a blanket, not a towel immediately. Cover transfer trap on the top and sides, but leave the end open so they can see all the way through. Make sure cat is not looking at you and make sure you have no slack in your rope and it’s best to hide in your car or behind a fence, building, etc. as you have be cautious with kittens as drop trap is very heavy if it comes down on a kitten so you have to be very quick but once you know the cat/kitten is focused on the food and not going to steal a chunk and run out.

Great, very helpful! Love the DT! drop trap! Thank you for this wonderful product.

I strongly suggest for tear down: Clip the clips to the sides of the trap. Don’t let them dangle. If you let them dangle, they will clip to the trap on their own but in all the wrong places, and you will need to pry them apart next time you go to set your trap. This can get extremely difficult if not impossible to accomplish without a pair of pliers. If your finger gets stuck, it hurts bad. And with a colony of cats watching… never again!

Saving up to get one of these, I have used one in the past thanks to a volunteer that does this as a volunteer to help the feral cat communities for injured or feral cats that need to be TNR'd or vetted. It is a 100 percent success rate when used properly to capture a family of cats, or hard-to-capture cats. I have had to call him many times as my live trap does not work near as well. I have been active in the TNR and Feral cat community for over 10 years now. This is one amazing product any Feral cat colony takers or rescues need in their lives. I am so grateful they are still available. They are pricey but so worth it. Well worth investing in. A few more months I hope to have enough to purchase one myself.

Thanks for this excellent presentation. I have borrowed this drop trap from someone who didn't know what the extra grid was for, so I didn't utilize it. One kitty was so big and rambunctious he was able to move that trap 3 feet to the edge of the concrete thereby creating a gap at the uneven surface from concrete pad to grass that could have been his escape. Now I know to use that weight grid as an anchor.
@ItIsYourMom10 ай бұрын
I have used this trap for years numerous times alone, no problems, then a couple of weeks ago a cat dragged it and almost escaped, then last night my friend had a cat squeeze out the top in the middle - he pushed the folding area on the roof and got out! Needless to say, we're also going to be weighting from now on and attaching the center area of the roof, as well!

The trays are a little too big as you have to tilt it to get it out and litter gets spilled. They should make the boxes not as wide so they can slide out straight.
@jeannejain14554 ай бұрын
The boxes from your own fancy feast catfood or from the store are perfect for that purpose. Some shelters are using them as disposable litter boxes also.

I got this for a stray cat I wasn’t able to trap any other way in my backyard. It did have a few hiccups, but if you practice you can balance the trap right on the edge of the rod that retracts. Be sure to keep holding the remote trigger down. If you only quickly pull the trigger, it will only retract halfway. You have to keep pressure on the trigger to keep the rod pulling back to drop the trap. I was absolutely thrilled to get this poor guy inside with us!

Unfortunately the rod on the receiver slips off too much from the welded rod propping up the trap when I try to use it. The moments I do get it to not slip the receiver won’t retract. This works well with single traps but just not reliable with drop traps.

Has worked great for me. I can usually catch an interloper/troublemaker into this small feral cat community at will within hours. I've only used it a few times over 3 years. Still works fine. Allows me to catch the one that I want without having to catch and release any of the existing colony members.

I forgot to mention I was going to keep the cat in my house permanently after her vet visit.
@davidangelo86162 жыл бұрын
These drop traps work great for catching a cat but unfortunately my cat would not move from the drop trap into the transfer cage. I watched several videos on this and tried everything including prodding her with a small stick to make her go into the transfer cage. Finally I put on some gloves and put my hand under the cage and tried to push her into the transfer cage which I know is not recommended but she would not go in it. We accidentally raised the drop trap up too high and she escaped. Now I don’t know if she will ever come back. I wasn’t doing trap neuter return. I’ve become very attached to this cat and was taking her to the vet to get spayed and her shots and for FIV / FELV testing, flea worm treatment but now I don’t know if she’ll ever come back and if she does if she’ll go back under a trap. Even if she does come back and I am able to catch her in the drop trap I may still not be able to get her in the transfer cage. I am so disappointed this didn’t work out.

I'm so sorry she escaped. I know the feeling of getting very attached. I'm in that process and purchased a drop trap hoping to trap a feral cat and keep her after being vetted. Did she come back? You probably know this, but cover the entire drop trap with a sheet/blanket and leave the end of the transfer trap open...so she thinks there is a way of escape. Best to you!

While I am not going to say it's junk, there are a couple of limitations to it that I hope Tomahawk corrects in the future... #1 - the box that sits against the cat trap - you obviously have to keep it switched on. Yeah - it runs thru your AA batteries (4 of them) in less than a week. I don't want to wait until I see the feral to go out and turn it on - then the feral cat runs off. It would be nice if there was either a recharge port, or an electric option to plug into an outside socket. Meanwhile, I'd suggest you invest in a good set of at least 8 rechargeable AA batteries. #2 While the remote trigger does have the USB port for recharging, if you turn it off while you're waiting on the feral, the slide on the trap box pulls back. Yep - nothing like seeing the trap released because you wanted to save energy on the remote. So, my solution is to keep it turned on and on the charger while you're waiting for the nightly visit from your fave feral. Other than those two problems, both of them having to do with the problems of power on and off on the units, I'm very happy with my unit. It's nice to know that I can make sure I catch the cat, rather than the skunk or racoon that wanders thru the yard! Thank you to Tomahawk!
