Amazing match, wish we saw more of these matches on the stream or other channels. Was hoping RayRay could get his revenge. He held his own and went down 3-2. Could have easily gone the other way, but didn't happen. Props to Ryan for still being able to play at that level after years of being off the scene. Really looking for LivingLegend and Priest footage against Chris G.

Its hard watching talented team loyalists fall short of their Evo goal. The problem seems to be some characters just require too much work/precision (Mag), have too big a hit box (Sent), or have a lot of bad match ups at higher levels (Doom), for the team to be a favorite over the more established top tier teams. You have to wonder if Ray had alternate variations of his team, he might be able to pivot on some of the bad match ups.
@janematthews9087 Жыл бұрын
His other team that I know he plays is Ryu, Iron Fist, Akuma. Yeah. I sincerely don't know if he does have a different top tier tream....
@ghostfire1192 Жыл бұрын
I mean, it’s not like Mags and Doom are lacking at top level. Tons of people have been able to make them work and they’re very good characters that while take work in the case of mags or have bad mus in the case of doom find huge success at high level And bring a character loyalist doesn’t mean that you can’t go far. KBR just got 4th with arguably a team that struggles heavily into common zoning mus and doesn’t have any top tier characters yet he still makes it work easily
@majinbuu34 Жыл бұрын
@ghostfire1192 I agree what what you said, but in terms of winning Evo, team flaws, even minor ones with top-tier characters will be put on notice and can be exploited by teams higher in the tier meta. That's the thing about tournaments like Evo, you never know what teams you will face, or avoid, but you have to have a plan for bad matchs ups. Do you adapt or adjust your team? Rays team is no different, despite having strong characters. His Mags is tops, the character works his ass off, but can suffer from random drops and wiffs verus zoning and flow chart teams. Sentinel is a great comeback character, but if you can avoid the big body swings, you can catch him open, or force him into a corner with projectiles. Doom is probably the best assist character in the game and in earlier years, was considered a great comeback character with a sneaky foot dive. Not anymore. Doom, because of bad match ups, and familiarity, is now typically held in check until X-factor runs out and then slowly bled to death. It's why he's often eliminated last when defeating/deconstructing power teams like (ChrisG, LT, Ray, FChamp, etc.). Being a team/character loyalist isn't a bad thing, but it's kinda self defeating when you know there are teams out there that you just struggle to beat, or have to work 10x harder to beat. For example, watching KBR play a zoning team like Dual Kevin / Chris G versus an upclose team like Ray's or even Liberal Terminator. Also, despite tier composition, KBR's team has a very predictable flow with minimal drop risk and is optimized to hell. Once he starts his flow chart, the odds of your character dying are pretty high versus a random drop/error. What I was suggesting is that perhaps a variation of Ray's shell team should be considered in cases of a bad match ups. Instead of mags on point, perhaps a different point character, or switching out that big body for something that doesn't eat so many soul fists. It might be too late now though, as UMVC3 is probably done on the Evo big stage forever at the point.

It comes down too skill & Ray got outplayed end o the day. Team Comp is very important but at this lvl of playing, especially someone as experienced as Ray Ray he got outplayed.
@chimpmasterflex Жыл бұрын
In mvc3 at least, not many people tend to counterpick or swap teams. It's to a pretty absurd level tbh. I remember years ago Ray tried to pick up zero, but it just wasn't for him I guess. Even when it works out not many stick with it. Like when Jwong played vergil vs chris g that one time and won lol, but I don't think he ever brought it back out. At least ray doesn't really play that ryu/mag/sent crap anymore lol.
