When I teach agility, I tell students your dog will be 100% accurate practicing at home, 50% practicing at your club, and 10% in competition. Don't expect your home performance to always make its way into the competition ring.

I find my dog jumps better with 16 " height in crossover games. I find that others don't like slowing things down waiting for the jump height to be changed for a dog. Everyone likes it to flow quickly and usually the jumps are kept at 12". You kind of stand out in not a good way for asking for a height change for your run.

Teaching the patterns still requires communication and ability with shuffle tosses. There's still a transition between shuffle tosses and longer, floating throws while the competitor gathers discs and moves. Slower people vs fast people may throw differently between the shuffles. I actually had to teach my dogs to be better at shuffle tosses to try to compete in 4WP. It was never one of my strong freestyle tricks before 4WP made me work on it.

I think a great upgrade to level 2 4WP would be requiring at least 1 throw in each round to be something other than a standard backhand throw. So, to officially clear a quad, if you didn't throw something different yet, it's not cleared. They could throw again to any square with a different throw to clear it. The score keeper can just note in some way, maybe D for different, instead of X for a catch in that zone.

Other graphic directions that came to mind for themes for achievements. Catapult throwing a fire ball. A Molotov cocktail on fire, but maybe in a fun way, like a shot glass. Spy vs Spy Uppy throwing a fireball. Heat Miser Uppy. A cannon shooting a fire ball. Heat Miser could be an achievement.

so glad to hear you say you can't claim a song really - I am listening to this thinking how the heck would I even know what songs people used last year or elsewhere - I have a whopping three trials under my belt and virtually no freestyle understanding/knowledge yet. Hence why I am here :)

I just came here to say I can't believe there are no comments. Loved this one but man oh man Dre is protective of songs.... my opinion is that no one owns anything. Everyone's song is fair game we aren't retiring songs like some superstars jersey. Now if anyone ever calls 911 that may be a different story.

The first time I ever heard of UpDog was around 2016. I met Babs at an Ultimate Air Dogs dock jumping event in Dixon, IL. She was there promoting this new sport. She spent some time with me trying to get my dock jumping dog to play frisbee. Unfortunately, I did not know anything about training yet and my dog was not very interested in discs or really toys in general. But I was very impressed with her energy and enthusiasm about UpDog. I remember her talking about it being beginner friendly and that you could earn achievements just by playing. I told myself that I would keep it in mind and that hopefully at some point I'd own a dog that had interest. Skip forward to 2021 when I got a border collie puppy (Fable) and played my first UpDog round in 2022.

Other Jack took the time to tell me something positive about my routine at a Skyhoundz event with my new dog, Odie. It meant a lot to me and I decided to continue working with this dog and competing in Freestyle. I had never met him before and he was judging that day, so the feedback was really great!

I agree by taking the Freestyle Judging class, I learned so much about Fresstyle and just different things that judges are looking for.

Fabulous information. As new to disc I've so much to learn and all the things you go over are pretty new to me. Where are those "bullet points"? How do I find out when you are going have more virtual events? Especially my younger dog is not crowd friendly.

Nova Dog Sports gave out little bottles of Fireball Whiskey for doing the Beta and that was fantastic!

How long does the fireball phase last? If it is 15 seconds, when it is called at the end, the player should know it is a 15 second timer?
