Evvil or not, the lyrics are by far the most interesting and idiosyncratic thing about the Smiths. The music is like a (beautifully performed and technically exacting) knitting pattern. The name 'The Smiths' is 'ordinary' as he says, but describing a wordsmith and a tunesmith who first met at a Patti Smith concert, it's just perfect.

Marr's guitar style is "feminine" for lack of a term. It's stripped down, basic riffs that a promising-but-limited girl guitarist would perform. I'm sure Morrissey liked that since the show was mostly about his energy, not the guitar player.

People evolve and mature but no matter how much they do, they still have the same essence. Morrisey’s main message of his songs, among other stuff, was basically “I pretend I do not care because I do too much”. He was the most loving and passionate guy and with Marr by his side he was even happier, but it hurted him too that he didn’t feel the same or that he was in denial about his feelings. So now he pretends he doesn’t care, because he does too much. And it still hurts. It’s beautiful and sad at the same time

When he said “we were young and we didn’t know what we were doing!” It was funny because they were on the way to becoming the best band of the last 40 years!

Please don't take the smiths too seriously, it's just entertainment. They are told what to say.

Morrissey's body of work spans 40 years now. Always original and never apologetic, he is still producing finely crafted musical gems to this day.
