Evvil or not, the lyrics are by far the most interesting and idiosyncratic thing about the Smiths. The music is like a (beautifully performed and technically exacting) knitting pattern. The name 'The Smiths' is 'ordinary' as he says, but describing a wordsmith and a tunesmith who first met at a Patti Smith concert, it's just perfect.

I totally despise morrisey; he's singing was amazing; but, only with The Smiths. after that, I did not care about him at all. He was done after the smiths

Huge denial in Morrissey’s case. Meeting Johnny Marr was the best thing that ever happened to him and vice versa.

Marr's guitar style is "feminine" for lack of a term. It's stripped down, basic riffs that a promising-but-limited girl guitarist would perform. I'm sure Morrissey liked that since the show was mostly about his energy, not the guitar player.

i mean he's been butt hurt ever since the Smiths ended, he thought it would go on forever. kidding himself like that was his ultimate downfall really, for someone who wrote such real lyrics he had some unrealistic expectations. it's his own fault he's so bitter really

People evolve and mature but no matter how much they do, they still have the same essence. Morrisey’s main message of his songs, among other stuff, was basically “I pretend I do not care because I do too much”. He was the most loving and passionate guy and with Marr by his side he was even happier, but it hurted him too that he didn’t feel the same or that he was in denial about his feelings. So now he pretends he doesn’t care, because he does too much. And it still hurts. It’s beautiful and sad at the same time
