JTP, give yourself a pat on the back for me. Producing and hosting the show by yourself isn't easy and you handled it like you've been doing it for 20 years. So kudos. I've watched the show for several years and have seen how you've grown and gotten more comfortable doing the show by yourself and with guests. Great guest today and really good conversations. Thanks for giving us ISBR listeners a show while Jim was on "assignment". Lol

Casey said TKR would possibly be the best offensive center not necessarily best overall center. He isnt enough of a rim protector to be a defensive factor at center. Niw Jacobson their freshman coming in is a very good rim protector and is doing very well for Team USA under 18 team in Argentina right now.

Here is the deal. IU had talent last year but absolutely NO CHEMISTRY! I anticipate the same problem this year. Too much NIL ego and selfishness. Not just at IU. It is all over D1 basketball. Not the best 5 guys. The RIGHT 5 guys.
@IndianaSportsBeatRadio
@IndianaSportsBeatRadio 11 күн бұрын
UConn didn't have that problem. Hurley replaced 75% of his offense and won another title. People are using NIL as an excuse. Running a program falls squarely on the coach and the players he selects.
@myronlarimer1943
@myronlarimer1943 11 күн бұрын
@@IndianaSportsBeatRadio exactly. It’s getting the RIGHT 5 guys on the floor. That is on the coach to understand chemistry. Hurley does a great job of it. Problem is too many guys keep hopping around because they are only committed to themselves and not the program. By not being patient end up not developing anyway, hurting both themselves and the program they are in.

The call with Clark is blatant evidence of cheating on the part of the refs. Cheating scheduling because they hate the Midwest, the real motivation for what is going on. That lack of a flagrant foul on Boston's Brown was the worst I have ever seen in an NBA playoff game. McConnel made one of 4 shots after getting decked by Brown; more hating on the Midwest period

Homer Hoosier here….”If” Woody can get this team running together and gelling then imo IU is a top 5 team in the country. This team on paper is just sick. All our guys are experienced in power 6 conferences with the exception of Hatton. Ballo is a walking dbl dbl MR could very well be that as well. MM could be the best on the team. Then there’s something we didn’t have last year….plethora of talented guards. Newton is going to surprise imo. Trey will be able to play free(which could be the “X”factor. We have a 5 star freshman coming off the bench. Let that sink in. Is it winter yet? Actually I ready for summer but nonetheless can’t wait! Go Hoosiers

We start the season potentially with 5 players that averaged double figures in scoring last year. I'd love to start all 5, or do we bring one of these scorers off the bench with a player like Galloway that can continue the momentum that the starters gave you? Ideally that would be what Tucker, Goode can do. I want to see Newton play.

After last year, I say it's wise to keep Gallo on the bench ... After hitting only 52% on FTs and 26% on 3s, we gotta limit his minutes ... I'd be totally infuriated if he starts over Carlyle ... and don'r rule out Tucker as a potential starter - he's the best ISO man they got.

Who is responsible for starting this ridiculously stupid idea that you can't have Ballo and Reneau on the floor at the same time? ... I guess the floor is not big enough for both of them, right? ... what incredible nonsense! ... Since Reneau will once again be our low-post go-to guy, doesn't it make sense to also have Ballo in there to follow on his misses? And doesn't anybody remember that Ballo was a starter for Gonzaga alongside another low post assassin, Drew Timme? Who is responsible for this galactically stupid idea? !!!
@IndianaSportsBeatRadio
@IndianaSportsBeatRadio 11 күн бұрын
I expect Ballo to average about 22 minutes a game and Reneau about 26,27. They will spend time on the floor together, but why would you sit them both at the same time? Ballo will score and rebound (13 & 10). Someone will have to rebound while Reneau is in the game (15 & 6) unless IU is knocking down 3's which will be less likely when they both are on the floor together. And that is actually the bigger issue. If you prefer an offense that focuses on running through two bigs in the paint you're going to lose games three to two. (Have you seen that movie before?) What is the point of upgrading the roster with multiple athletic guards and forwards, that can get up and down the floor, get to the rim, and shoot the deep ball, if you're going to run the offense through the post and lose games 3-2?
@douglascarlson9006
@douglascarlson9006 11 күн бұрын
@@IndianaSportsBeatRadio Point taken, but ... Ballo averaged 27m for AZ last season ... why would you want to chop him down to 22m? ... And don't forget that the job Woody did with TJD and Ware was probably a factor in Ballo coming here ... So my point is that he too must have NBA aspirations that would not be helped by only playing him slightly more than half a game ...
@IndianaSportsBeatRadio
@IndianaSportsBeatRadio 11 күн бұрын
@@douglascarlson9006 It was 25.9 to be specific, but I am not chopping anything, just telling you what I expect. If he has aspirations for the NBA I would advise him to quickly develop a 3pt shot. There are 200 available minutes each game. You want to run Ballo and Reneau 30 minutes each so they can combine to average 25-30 ppg when you a team will need to average 75-80? That leaves 140 minutes. Lets say Leal does not even see the floor. That leaves you with two bigs taking up 30% of the available minutes and the 9 other players getting 7.7% of the min per game. That is not realistic. Why? Because 3 is still greater than 2 and you will again need the guys that are getting least amount of playing time to score the most points. After 3 years most people have come to realize that while "Buddy Ball" can definitely be beneficial to have, it better be your "fall back." How has that strategy worked for Indiana the last 3 seasons?

@@douglascarlson9006 I would guess he's getting paid somewhere in the neighborhood of about $800,000. He played 25 mpg last season, so playing that or 2-3 mpg less, because you are on a better team, would not be an issue IMO. But, as I pointed out, that is not the big picture. It is not about what Indiana can do for Oumar Ballo, (remember the $800K?), it's what Ballo can do for Indiana. And having Reneau and Ballo taking up 30% of the available PT together 2 points at a time is not in Indiana's best interest. I try to discuss as many comments as possible, but you skirted right by all of the multiple questions I asked and things I pointed out to basically ask the same question in a different way.

@IndianaSportsBeatRadio
@IndianaSportsBeatRadio 11 күн бұрын
@@user-du8ri9gc3k I'm not claiming to be an expert on today's in-state recruits. But I have a lot of conversations with players and families. A visit with the entire staff is nice, but does it make up for consistant and double digit visits by a head coach? And truly that is probably in the eye of the beholder. Today I think one extreme is too much and the other not quite enough. With the talent that comes from Indiana year in and year out, there are three-year players that you should be able to land and elite ones. Going forward, I think Matt Painter will never bring in another six man freshman class again, nor do I think Woody will bring in a class of more than up to three freshmen max. His goal is not to build culture or a program if you want my honest opinion, it's simply to win right now. If he brings in one freshman that's going to be of the Elite variety If he were to bring in to, or maybe three, you may get too elite and 13-year or one elite and two three-year guys, but that's about all the variety you will see. Everything else will come via the portal. It's a new era, Indiana fans are going to have to pick their poison.
@IndianaSportsBeatRadio
@IndianaSportsBeatRadio 11 күн бұрын
I think it's important to land guys like Trent Sisley, Jalen Haralson, and Braylon Mullins. Are you going to get all three of those guys and a Malachi Moreno? It's doubtful, but if you had your druthers you would take the three in-state guys because they are all different type players that could be 2-4 year guys and you will always be able to find a big center in the portal.

But if we're going to raise a new generation allowing people to just quit, or to be quit on, it's going to go downhill a lot faster than it already is. But since we're in the era of paying playersI have long said I don't understand why there cannot be multi-year contracts.
