Offshore Wind has many advantages over on-shore wind, including: (1) You can erect larger, more powerful, more efficient wind turbines because you can use large ships instead of long trucks to transport components. (2).Offshore wind provides a higher capacity factory, meaning that the turbines produce more energy, more often than on-shore wind. Approx 45-55% instead of 35-45%. (3). With Offshore wind, you don't need to clear trees or vegetation, you don't need to bulldoze roads along ridges and up to the turbines site, like you need to do with on-shore wind. (4). The Offshore turbines can be sited in water well away from human habitation (houses, roads) and well away from trees and forests, ... so there *should* be less impact on humans and wildlife. (I hope so). And so on. But there are disadvantages as well with Offshore wind - storms, strong currents, massive waves, more difficult access for maintenance, corrosion, etc. And also the potential issues wind the turbines and/or high voltage / high amperage undersea transmission cables to migrating whales and other sea life. Solar Power seems like a "no brainer" - it has no moving parts, nearly zero maintenance, is cheap, clean, and getting cleaner all the time. Cleaner methods of production and more complete recycling at end of life are both being actively pursued. Putting solar panels on existing and new houses, shopping malls, warehouses, factories, over cars in car parks, etc makes a lot of sense and provides no harm to humans or wildlife. I have solar panels and solar hot water on my old farm house, and I export 10x more energy to the grid than I use, and I am planning to export more electricity and (by adding batteries, pumped hydro, etc) I am aiming for 24/7 production in the future. Anyway, I hope we are doing the right thing with solar, wind, ... and that future generations wont curse us for not going with Nuclear Fission or some other existing / proven power source.

The quality of the sound is quite bad in the case of one of the men in the video. For some reasons there are reverberations in his case. Also the way he explains is quite bad. Besides this, his accent is difficult to understand, especially if your first language is not English.

Thats why helicopter blades have to be replaced after so many hours.
@clintonsmith99318 ай бұрын
May never need replacing , but there is a big pile of old blades South of Big Spring TX. If you think blades last a long time, look at a old Corvette body and they don’t vibrate like those blade.

All wonderful but how much research do you carry out into disposal and recycling of spent blades and towers, if you can't give a meaningful reply to this simple question can we safely assume the answer is.....none?

And as of NOW there is NO definitive way to "recycle" these obviously terminal parts. 25 years is a LIE.

Interesting how he says life span of 25 years but they’re replaced after 2 to 3 years.
@augustomorcelli72928 ай бұрын
where have you learned that? this is not true... turbines that need blade replacement are the exception.

Question: How many degrees of freedom an object can manifest at the same time? For example, a sphere is spinning clockwise and moving forward at the same time, i.e. it’s using 2 out of 6 degrees of freedom, can it have more?

At [0:31] it is claimed that the UK is the "global innovator of the wind industry". That's absurd, the UK has no homegrown OEM manufacturing in wind, no brands, at best a subsidiary of Siemens or GE. The UK buys, EU companies install. This BladeBug, that literally sucks, may be able to traverse a blade, but it doesn't say what it can do. Inspect? Perhaps, but you can do that with any drone.

It's good to have Renewable Energy when Sunshine, Windspeed is good. When conditions are not favourable for Renewable Energy, Conventional Power Plants are the source of Electricity. Making Conventional Power Plant obsolete will deprive of the region from Electricity in difficulties. Maintaining Conventional Power Plants may be expensive when Renewable Energy Sources are fulfilling the Demand, but are necessary for Electricity Generation. Offshore Wind Farms are Amazing, would like to work in them as E&I Engineer, but here in India we don't have good windspeed for them to be constructed in a large scale by Geography.

Blades cannot be recycled, full of toxic glues etc. The huge amounts of balsa comes from the rain forests. It all ends up in landfill. The enormous amount of concrete and steel is left in the ground. A wind turbine can never save as much carbon as it takes to make it. Today, the UK demand is 38GW, quite low. The output from the entire UK wind industry is 1GW. Explain how this is a/ usefull, b/ viable.

This is not well explained. What's stopping echobolt from attaching 100s of measurement devices - one to each bolt or to some random sample of them - and measuring all of their torques constantly ? Why is the robot really needed? What would be wrong with installing a rail around the inside and moving the measurement device along it without having to have a complete multi-legged robot doing the work? Are these bolts located all over the structure? How many of them are there?
