Great review! How has the board held up? Curious about its longevity since I value durability over other aspects. Definitely going to get a sub xero but I’m 80kg-82kg and torn between 5’8 and 5’9. I’m planning to use it as a daily driver for pretty much anything from knee high to overhead. Do you think I should get 5’8 or 5’9 will give me more range? Because of the added density of carbotune you mentioned, would you think getting 5’9 in carbotune can be comparable to 5’8 Hyfi in 1-2ft waves? Thanks!
@joshtraceysurfing3 ай бұрын
Hey mate, I'm still riding it all the time and it doesn't have a mark on it other than the compression i talk about in the video. It even kissed the wall at the pool one time. Personally i'd go the 5'8, I was about that weight when I bought mine. They also have th HyFi 3 which is half carbon (bottom) and half epoxy. Its a bit cheaper and I've heard good things, though I've not tried one. Good luck mate!

I guess the bottom contour would need a more gradual change than all at once - like 15 foot ramp up instead of 5 foot ramp up (though I have no idea of current contour). We need to get next size though. Someone needs to design it because cheap energy will be here at some point. Think of those pirate ships or whatever at fairs that swing back and forth. Hey mate, the fact that you can't put a foot wrong on it is because it's JS. They make amazing board. I have a xero gravity, and so far, it's the best board I've ridden. It's super forgiving and very responsive. I surfed 8+ft with it yesterday, and even though it's not the board, you should ride in waves like that it held really well and got the job done. Thanks, JS. Good review, mate. I actually thought about getting a xero gravity carbon. I wish they would make the raging bull in carbon, too

@watman_5 ай бұрын
Compressions in boards are actually a good thing. You can get your feet groove in the board. Relating compressions to strength is a false narrative. High performance boards that have good flex are most likely to get compressions and feel way better under your feet. Also, you didn’t mention flex at all, you only spoke about “density” and kind of touched on specs. Flex is everything in a Surfboards’s and carbon boards usually don’t have flex although JS said he has worked on this. I would rather a board getting more compressions with good flex than have a stiff board that is “strong”. Just my opinion. Thanks for the review.
@joshtraceysurfing5 ай бұрын
@@watman_ thanks for your message mate. There is plenty of flex in the carbon, but not like the Hyfi. That being said the carbon does go better. My mate has the xero in carbon and his deck is compressed, to be fair though I do have a front traction pad so perhaps there is some compressions in mine that I just can’t see. They’ve just dropped hyfi 3 and that is carbon on the bottom and hyfi on top. I saw some reviews saying they have amazing flex and pop but I’ve not had the chance to ride one. I’ve been riding mine in the wave pool in Sydney and goes killer!

Hey mate what time of year are you going? If it’s not say between November and April it will be blowing onshore pretty much everyday. There seems to be a bunch of breaks all the way along the beach, some you need a boat and some you don’t. I think there is a couple north of this spot that can be paddled but I didn’t surf them. Hey Josh, thanks for the review. I'm looking for a board to progress my surfing. I've been told that I'm a low-intermediate. Do you think this board would work for someone still working on takeoffs and turning?
@joshtraceysurfing5 ай бұрын
Hey fella, I think most boards will still be good for that. Was is it about this board this you like? My personal opinion, is that this is quite an expensive board at around $1600 so it’s expensive to learn on. In know JS have just released their Hifi 3 which is half carbon half epoxy. You’ll get similar pop and snap from the carbon but at a cheaper price. I’m really keen to see how these go and would possibly check out one of them so save some cash. All that being said, I’m still exclusively riding this board and absolutely love it still. At urbn surf it’s been so much fun.

No worries, I was there last night! A couple more tips... don't ride a twin or 2+1 use a thruster as you need more drive in your bottom turns as it can be a little boggy. Hey mate, how have you found the sizing and litres? Im presuming you had the hifi in a 5'8 too? Would you say its good at the same size with paddling etc seeing as you mentioned its sits in the water more? Whats your height and weight? Ive had a 5'8 hifi2.0, curious about sizing a carbotune. Felt lime i could have done with abit more volume at times. Im 5'7 80kg! Cheers
@joshtraceysurfing6 ай бұрын
Hey mate thanks for reaching out. Yeah I had the 5'8 in Hyfi too and found the same size good! What I mean by sits in the water more, is it doesn't sit on top of the water like the Hify when you're on the wave, it's difficult to explain, but I think if you ride one you'll get what I mean straight away. I'm 5'9 and about 77kg. but when I bought that board I was about 82kg so when I get another one I'll likely drop down a size again. It's still the only board I'm riding... but I'm quietly toying with the idea of getting the Xero too.
