this was such a fascinating watch! it's great that there are architects to actually practice being mindful of the structures and communities around their projects. I have personally never heard of architects approaching neighbors in my city to see what aspects of their design can be adjusted to accommodate the folks around them. I really hope this project works out for you 🌻

Thank you for your comment, it really helps in keeping me motivated for creating more videos, and for this I thank immensely! To be honest, I do believe most of my colleagues try and integrate the surrounding structures into their designs. I believe the main challenge lies in setting the proper channels of communication and speeding up feedback loops. I think I’ll make a whole video dedicated to this issue. Thanks for sparking this idea!

Hey, thanks for your comment! I'm glad I sparked your curiosity! Look, to be honest I don't really know how to address this, because I felt I shared everything along the different series of videos,. I think I shared the design you're looking for in the previous video "how an architect develops design concepts" (kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4K0h4CIjZqhpck). Just in case, I've also just added a post in the community tab where I put up the different design stages. I hope it helps! Once again, thanks for your comment!

I think that its amasing that you approach the context in this way, and i'm quite sure this helps avoid you and your client future headaches. That said i think the way the counsil treats new builds in respect to the neighboors is a bit unfair, and i think it gives an unfair disadvantage to any future developement on an unbuilt plot, that grows as the rest of the neighborhood is built-up. In my understanding this would create the risk for random plots remaining empty for eternity, totaly not good for urban density and sprawl, but also completely unfair to the unlucky few that will either never develop their property or never do so in a cost-effective manner. Also regarding the detouched house, i think you can argue that the plot is irregular enought to justify for it, and specially when you try to avoid problems with the neighbors and you give yourself additional limitations.

Thanks for this valuable feedback! And I share your concern. I also think that the current approach makes the endeavor of developing a riskier one than it should be (considering one has to buy a plot without even knowing how many square meters one can build). I also think the council in an ideal world does vouch for the community so their role and input is valuable. we just need to work for better systems. Thanks again for taking the time and your input!

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! And you've summed it up exactly right, when designing, it's all about trade-offs, not just looking for the best for each individual space but finding the solution that works best for the ensemble!

I appreciate how you exposed the complexity of the ides of sustainability. Over time I’ve come to accept that modern human existence is simply not truly sustainable in the authentic sense. I also despise certification schemes as allowing people to think that less bad is as good as doing good. Let’s not delude ourselves as we work towards actually doing good as we do less bad.
@Augspach-Architecture
@Augspach-Architecture 29 күн бұрын
Thanks for the comment! I think you’ve laid it better than I have by pointing out that we often think that “doing less bad is as good as doing good”. On the one hand it’s not the case, as you point out, but also it’s incredibly hard to measure. Nevertheless, I think certification schemes in the form of legislation is better than the alternative. Thanks again and Happy 2025!

Really interesting video. I recently with my architect at my site and we've had the same issue with neigbhours windows facing onto our site, roof lines etc, but it's a good card to have in your pocket before planning approval and I'd never want to move into a house with bad atmosphere between the neighbours.
@Augspach-Architecture
@Augspach-Architecture Ай бұрын
Exactly! As long as you can help it, I believe you should try to accommodate as much as you can your neighbors demands. At the same time, you and your architect should also not loose sight of your own needs and understand when these demands become “unreasonable”. Best of luck with your house!

Hey Pedro! Great video, love the editing! A bit of constructive feedback: In the beginning it would be nice to get an overview over what the video covers where you try and break down site analysis into a few steps. At 1:50 you say it's a 3 step process, but by the end of the video Im not sure what those three steps are. I think laying that out clearer and within the first 30 seconds of the video would make it more digestible. But yea loving all the outdoor shots and seeing you sketch etc. Looking forward to see the design in the next video!

I just moved to a new house with a very bright kitchen (which i love) but it does make the living room seem darker at some hours. I now know it's because of the light difference! Having a semi translucent curtain has allowed me to reduce the lux difference between this two spaces and now I enjoy it much more. Thank you for explaining what was going on! Waiting for the next video ✨

I love your scientific approach, your use of numbers, graphs, diagrams, and simulations to drive home your point. I dislike handwavy theoretical explanations because it is easy to hide the nuance and the exceptions. You took a detailed approach, called out the drawbacks of the direct vs diffused light graphs and used the solar dice to drive home your point instead of brushing it under the rug. Keep up the great work!

This was a beautiful summary of a really complex concept. I loved both this video and the "Daylight in Architecture" video. I am surprised to see such great content from a new channel. I am not an architect but I am house hunting. I went down this same rabbit hole last month and learned about these things by studying sun path charts and thinking about these concepts on my own and drawing my own diagrams. I learned a lot of the same things but I struggled to find a singular good resource that explained it to me. I had to collate sun path charts for my area, find simulations to understand how the tilt of the earth and the angle of the ecliptic look from an observers POV on earth, and come up with all of these ideas on my own. I enjoyed the process but it is great that you could validate my understanding and summarize the takeaways. I am going to share this with my partner because all my attempts at explaining this weren't nearly as good.
