Yes, but not as great as a influence that he did much later into his career. Allot of those fashion trends he didn't start in fashion, he just took from other styles or trends. The polo shirts, and rugby polos were already being worn in hip-hop since the early nineties. As a matter of fact the whole preppy look was a staple in hip-hop fashion since brands like Polo and Tommy Hillfiger were being worn heavily in the early 90's and late 80's in places like NY. That style was influenced from a notorious retail theft gang called the Lo Life's and also from a older rapper named Grand Puba. Grand Puba was a big rapper in the early nineties who stayed wearing a preppy Polo style. Kanye just seems like a style god and a trend setter to the uninformed, but most of his styles are just older styles that he recycles or styles he takes from.
