I’d like to purchase the excel but can I delete all costs related rows as I do not need it? Will it affect other row’s codes?

@@marujamarujj Thanks for your message. The 2 cost columns can either be deleted or hidden and they will not effect anything else. I can do that for you if you like for free.

Following up to say that Neil's spreadsheet is simplistic enough to use and very useful for our small business. He is also very helpful and available if you have questions. Highly recommend purchasing it.

Thank you, this has helped a lot! Can the system be linked to weight instead of quantity? Eg. selling meat per weight?

I am so sorry not to have replied earlier. I did not get a notification. A barcode coud represent weight. Eg You could have a barcode for “10 lbs” and “20 lbs”. And then as you scan the barcode, excel adds up the total weight.

Can this be impimented to an ebay system .... also where don't just sell one type of item?

The spreadsheet can be used to track any item. Each SKU is a different item; you can define your own SKUs and add a description of each.

Rather than generating your own UPC, is it possible to chain UPCs together with this setup? For instance I have 8 different brands of one commodity, but I only need a total inhouse count of that commodity. Can those 8 UPCs be linked to "beans"?

Hi EvilStromboli, thanks for the Q. The spreadsheet doesn’t support creating relationships between SKUs or defining the same SKU more than one way. However, an option, in addition to adding a unique bar code to the commodity items is to put all of the different brands of one product on one shelf, and have one unique barcode stuck to the shelf. Then regardless of which item is selected from that shelf, the shelf barcode is scanned with the quantity entered.

Brilliant video! Is there a way to add some logic that would allow you to scan a barcode to bulk add or remove quantities at a time (i.e 10 or 20 qty)? Additionally, could a barcode be created that, when scanned, would remove a specific quantity (1 unit or a variable amount) of each material/item used in the creation of a product? Say I scan the end-product barcode, have it then remove a set number of each of the components used up to create that product (i.e scanning the bean can barcode and it removing 1 can, 1 unit of beans, 1 label etc).

Glad you liked the video The barcode could always have a quantity number at the end, and the spreadsheet can be modified to see this and remove that number of items from the count. Eg ComponentA-large-0010 - a batch of 10 items ComponentA-large-0100 - a batch of 100 items If an end-product item was scanned out (eg sold), and you wanted all of the children of that to be removed from inventory then it could be done by: a. Scanning all of the children parts in, when purchased b. Scanning the children parts out when used to build the end-product c. Scanning the end product in as a new code to count the total end products in inventory This would provide visibility of component inventory as end-products are created. The company would know if they have enough components to build each end product.

So essentially what you are saying is, is to, instead of expanding your business as far as possible, to instead consider to increase its efficiency, because that puts you at a lower risk and puts you under less stress?

Yes, well said. Based on your own goals, and what you feel satisfied with, dont follow some internet mantra to grow regardless. Dont grow areas if they cause a lot of stress and risk (particularly if there is a down economy). Increase the areas you actually want to grow (income, sales, profit, referrals). In my 2 companies, we want to grow sales and income, and not office space and full-time employees. Yours could be a different selection.
