It's not so different now. Lots of Christians want Jesus to be representing a god who sends people to hell ( but not themselves) instead of being patient enough to wait for his prodigal son to change his mind, metanoia.

This is very poor advice and actively harms Christianity. Not everyone will be a Christian - there are billions of people in the world of all faiths. If they find good moral lessons from Christ than that should be celebrated.
@FPCSpiritLake27 күн бұрын
That is a helpful contribution. Maybe another way to frame this is that most Christians would celebrate anytime someone hears the teachings of Jesus and discovers wisdom in them, regardless of their faith (or non-faith) tradition. The point that Lewis is trying to make is that the historic Christian faith (and certainly the Gospel of John) does not portray Jesus as a quick witted teacher but rather a human claiming divinity. That claim of Jesus cannot be accepted by many outside the faith, and that is not a surprise to the Gospel writers.

Which Jesus is is in John? Is it the Jesus with 27 generations between Joseph and David in Matthew, or the Jesus with 42 generations between Joseph and David in luke? It's an important question since at least one of them isn't king of the Jews,, or king of kings. Who wrote John?
@FPCSpiritLake27 күн бұрын
Great question! The genealogies in Matthew and Luke highlight different aspects of Jesus-Matthew emphasizes His role as the fulfillment of Jewish prophecy, while Luke points to Him as the Savior of all humanity. John's Gospel, traditionally attributed to John the Apostle but also considered by some scholars to have been shaped by a Johannine community, focuses on Jesus' divine identity, proclaiming Him as the eternal King and the Word of God.
@JasonWorks-rf1yt25 күн бұрын
@FPCSpiritLake thank you. in my mind It's not a matter of aspect when the Bible is supposedly divinely inspired. i have an issue with the genealogies and every Gospel having a different first person or group showing up at the tomb after the resurrection The other issue with the genealogies in the Bible is Noah. Noah and the flood story according to the Bible couldn't happen on the biblical timeline. We have a living non clonal 4,883 year old bristlecone pine tree in California. My thoughts on this could be a little silly sounding, but I was homeschooled by my young earth creationist parents. My Dad's been a Bible literalist pastor for 50+ years, and I can't get passed Prometheus and Methuselah's tree rings... Once I found out about them.

I may be wrong, however, I looked in various translations and I think that Moses was the one to name his children not his wife 1:00. Which still supports that thought that Moses is in the middle.

The standard doctrine before the Council of Nicea in 325AD, was that there is only One God to be worshipped and Jesus was His Servant and Messenger. The Arian Creed.

What would you preach if you lived 3,000 years ago in North America? Man has been on earth for over 350,000 years. Focus on what Jesus taught which is love which is eternal and universal. Jesus was the pattern. Love is the power.

Hi Pastor Talk men So you touch base on Jacob crying or bewailed for Joseph but when Dinah was raped he was quiet didn't say anything waited for the brothers to come home. Just adding to the conversation. I know I'm years late. I've just started reading the Bible. And so far I like the Joseph story.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! That’s a really insightful observation about Jacob’s contrasting responses. It’s one of those moments in Scripture that invites us to wrestle with human complexity and cultural dynamics. I’m glad you’re diving into the Bible-Joseph’s story is such a rich and meaningful place to start. Keep reading and reflecting; the conversation is never too late to join!

Good, explanation. What I see is that God wanted to prevent that the Israelites became religious. Unfortunately, they became religious, I think also through the temple. The Pharisees treated it as their God I think.

I'm not sure people actually know what "saved" means. I know now it means being saved from God's wrath. I was raised as a JW and was one until almost 40. When knocking on doors, sometimes I was asked if I was saved. I didn't know what they meant and they didn't tell me. In my early 40s I became a Christian and I think my view at that time was saved meant going to heaven. At some point it came to me "saved from what?". People need to know what they can be saved from.

##### Genesis 1 is ELOHIM (Lucifer and the fallen angels). They made this realm. They made man in their image. (tares) Man is an idol, a trap to hunt angels. Genesis 2:7 the Lord God forms His representative in their system. (wheat) One Gospel: Gospel (GOOD ANGEL) of Reconciliation. Jesus Christ came into THEIR kingdom to reconcile fallen angels unto Himself. We are the fallen angels (ELOHIM) kept in DNA chains of darkness. If you do not confess being a fallen angel in Lucifer's kingdom, then you are an unbeliever. Unbeliever = those that claim to be made in the image of ELOHIM(gods). REPENT FALLEN ANGELS.

"Why did you pick this guy?" - this is the question we can apply to the most of Christ's lineage persons and answer is never found in any of those folks, the answer is always found in Him- it was He - as He says to Abraham - "I AM the Almighty God", as He promises Jacob I am with you, wont leave you, will keep you until I fulfill all what I said", He was the initiator, He made covenant, He kept all the promises - NOT ONE of them was worthy to be chosen to be in a Christ's lineage, it was all because of Him and His plan of grace. Genesis isnt about fathers' of faith (un)worthiness, its about God's mercy, grace and faithfulness. And thus its a huge encouragement to all of us that He will keep His promises (as He kept them with Abraham, Isaac, Jacob etc) and as Paul wrotes to Philippians - "Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:” He is a guarantee of our salvation, not us, just like Abraham was not a guarantee of the covenant God made with him, but God Himself. (that doesnt mean our ways of life dont matter, no! God chose those people and He worked in them, changing their hearts and mind. Same goes for us). Thank you for your insights on Jacob's persona/character, very helpful! Blessings!

We don't have a vehicle to get around and don't know anyone in the area or have a way to get to a church but we want so desperately to be baptized. We're both born again, me very recently but we love our Savior Jesus Christ but need help

Hi Seth! I would definitely recommend connecting with a local congregation and striking up a conversation about what a baptism would look like. Give this Methodist church a call, their pastor might be able to make recommendations! wrjmethodists.org/

It’s also a possibility that God was using the strong language in order to bring out what he knew Moses had inside him as a leader. 1:10 He may have been prompting Moses to step up and putting him in positions to test him.

This kid doesn’t know what he is talking about. That’s not what priests do, so many parishioners do ministry. This is like saying no congress shouldn’t govern america, but every person who has accepted citizenship in their heart should rule the country, complete chaos. And most reformed churches I grew up in lacked diversity in leadership and our susceptible to being ruled by a few influential men.
@FPCSpiritLake7 ай бұрын
Thanks for stopping by and taking time to engage with FPC! Obviously it is hard to encompass a whole sermon yet alone a whole exploration of the Reformed understanding of the universal priesthood of all believers in a short. That being said, within the Reformed tradition, all who are "in Christ" are part of that universal priesthood. Obviously, there are different roles and ministries as unique as the people in the church. Some of those roles are for governance, some for teaching, etc. That being said, it is deeply saddening that your experience of Reformed churches has been one where you didn't see those gifts celebrated. In these cases, confession and repentance would be the right and first step forward.
