The main reason this shotgun has issues cycling is usually the ammunition, and it was the green shells that where failing to eject. Some ammunition is listed as "high brass" when they're not really better than lower powered loads, there's more brass on the shell, but they have the same powder load as a "normal" shell. There's probably a list of ammunition that works best with the SPAS 12 out there, so you should grab some boxes of those and do some testing with the next SPAS 12 you get your hands on. Thanks for the video, I'll eat up anything on this awesome firearm, it's a favourite of mine... 🙂

Looks great! I can tell the trigger’s action is smooth, without that stiff, crunchy feel that’s common in newer models. That’s a clear sign it’s been properly broken in (not broken down, but used just enough to smooth out the action). This is a fantastic deal for the long term because you’re not just saving on the gun itself-you’re also saving on the rounds you’d otherwise have to use to break it in. In essence, you’re getting a trigger job without even trying! Definitely a smart find.

I just found your video. Thank you for the information. I have a .22 caliber model with the plastic stag style grips and a safety similar to the Heritage Revolver. I also had a .357 magnum version, but unfortunately traded it.

Working on one myself as a professional gunsmith and the sear on the one I'm working on also has a worn sear and it with either not catch the striker or is will catch it just enough to allow it to slip and strike the "snap cap" randomly. It barely grabs it at all (if it actually does engage) that even with the safety bar being tight against the trigger bar it is still more than enough play to allow it to slip the sear and fire. Parts are very hard to come by so I'll likely have to repair the sear that's in it (atleast its steel and can be built up with a small weld and filed back to shape), that or I'll just have to copy it and fabricate another sear from a piece of flat stock. I'll be damn sure to shape it properly and then heat treat the engagement edge atleast to keep it from wearing down. I have the gun running more reliablely than any erma luger clone I've seen yet but the sear is definitely unsafe and can run away (who thought I'd appreciate an 8 rnd mag). Though it has only rattled off 4 rounds on it's own during live fire testing before the striker chased the bolt and caused a very light striker that didnt ignite. I love the looks and nostalgia of these post war 22LR chambered clones but the internals arent hardened enough and they are very finicky about ammo. 1640fps rated CCI stinger can be too strong for them and may damage the toggle. Federal golden bullet HV can be just barely too weak to cycle reliably. CCI mini-mag seems to work the best and is just hot enough to keep it running. They are accurate guns even with short barreled models (despite non-adjustable sights, that tend to have a POI that's left of POA). The triggers when working correctly are very good for accurate target shooting. Good luck with finding a sear for it since they seem to have made 3 different types of internal actions. Mine has a striker that looks like a part of the bolt itself until it separates as it engages the sear. I'm sure yours is the same. I can bump mine and it will slip the sear even with the safety engaged. Sorry for the rant. Just hoped it would help. If yours isnt as bad off as mine you maybe able to heat treat (harden) the server surface. Or atleast file it back flat and harden it. Mine has the corner edge rounded over on the sears engagement face. So I'll likely be fabricate g a knew one. I'm fixing it for a fellow dealer who hasnt been able to find anyone locally that he trusts to get it fully fixed. If I can get a TEC-22 to run like a quality sewing machine I doubt this german mouse trap is going to beat me. I'm not even going to charge him because I've now just taken it on as a personal challenge. Not too many people are bullheaded enough that they would machine a new frame for an FIE titan 25acp because the original zamak* pot metal metal cracked. It was amazing accurate for what it is so when my "boot gun" broke I bought a colt automatic 25acp (junior) to replace it and then made an aluminum frame for the FIE and made the safety bar narrower to keep the area above the safety from being too thin. Both are still accurate but If i do carry a 25acp boot gun I carry the 1971 colt 25acp automatic (it doesnt say junior anywhere but they are the same gun. Again sorry about the rant but maybe knowing that I'm going through the same issue and despite the cost versus value I'm still going to fix it because if parts are hard to find now it will only get worse and I refuse to relegate thos gun to another non-function "gun in a jar" or wall hanger like so many less expensive classic pieces I find to be interesting. It might not be an expensive gun but if you fix it with better parts than it came with (a factory sear will wear out just like the original if the used replacement isnt already worn down some. Fix it right and tweak and polish it until it feeds reliably and atleast you'll have a great version of a gun most people thing isnt reliable. And yes eventually you'll wear on the follower by dropping the mag with the toggle locked on it which is just make the follower act of more over time. It's not easy to hold back the toggle and release the non-stop free mag but you seem to have ut figured out right. I hold the toggle back and press the mag release with my left hand thumb and push the mag down with my left hand pinky and release the toggle so it's not slamming home dry. Also dont dry fire any rim fires. Keep a snap cap in it. They may seem expensive for a plastic 22lr blank but they can save your almost irreplaceable firing pin and protect the pins in all your other rim fires. Good luck with it if you're still interested in repairing it. A little time and patience can go along way to keeping an almost 60 year old gun running.

Serial numbers for handguns are only the numbers marked on the frame. The slide is not a serialized, legally speaking, component. The frame or receiver of a firearm, 99% of the time are the only serialized and referenced number.

There's a company called Great lakes. They make a GL10 in 30-06, .270, and 300win that I know of. You can find them on the shelves for $1,200. And online for right at a thousand. Complete rifle. The only negative is a proprietary five round mag. Should have been 10 minimum. But whatever. Still thinking of picking one up because it doesn't make sense to spend three to five times that much for a name with some of the other offerings.

A small technicality, JP Sauer and Sohn still exist. SIG purchased the company Sauer and Sohn in 1976. And in 2000 the company was purchased by Michael Lüke and Thomas Ortmeier and SIG Holdings left.

From what I understand it is still US government property and can /will be taken if discovered. I have a Lee Enfield P14 stamped US Government property. I was told by a gunsmith to put it away or loss it. He has the responsibility to turn it over if he ever gets in into the shop. Is that true?
